Emery appears to be the problem - I was very hopeful when he joined, but I didn’t really know him.
Now I am not very hopeful about ‘hings’ and thanks to his ”remarkable” press conferences I still don’t know what he is thinking - or ’eben’ if he is thinking...
Didn’t Emery say after the Wolves match that the players had followed his tactics as he wanted?
Bit of both. Emery is a mid table manager. Should be managing a team like Palace or Everton.
As for players, MF is the worst we have had for 15-20 years
Emery is basically the Spanish Roy Hodgson. Except Roy can actually build a decent defence out of average players.
The team is missing some key ingredients to be next level. For instance we can easily get upgrades on DM and CBs, no one in those positions are good enough for a top 4 team. I think most of the rest can play better than they are. They can definitely all shoot more and pass better around the box for a start.
To me the players look like they’re just waiting for emery to be sacked, no one is particularly trying hard anymore and they look fed up. Often a squad play like we are not long before a manager gets the sack. So he needs to just go now, it’s not going to get any better.
Maybe you could say the players shouldn’t act like this, but we’ve been a mess for a while, and I’ve not really seen until recently that they players haven’t been trying. I think they’re fed up of his tactics that we all know don’t work. It’s up to the manager to get his players back on board and get them working effectively, he just can’t do that at all anymore and each game is worse
It's a shame really as I really wanted it to work for Emery with us. There were signs last season that he was taking us forward but then season ended badly in the last month. This season we seem to look worse and our midfield is poor and we are incapable of holding onto leads. I'm still hoping and praying Emery can get it right.
None of our MF would get into Leicester team bar probably Ozil as the number 10.
Forget teams like pool, city, chelsea, sours
Personally I think our squad/team is more than good enough it's just we have someone in charge who hasn't got a clue. Some of the stuff he does defies logic. It's the product of a cluttered mind and in truth deep down he knows he's not good enough for this job. I'm sure it will be a relief for him when they pull the trigger.

Spurs play Winks and Sissoko. I’d say one or more of Guendouzi, Ceballos and Torreira could get on their team depending on formation.
I wanted it to work for Emery, I think the board will be in a situation if we don’t best Leicester which I doubt we will. We cannot afford another season outside CL, can’t see Aubameyang and Lacazette wanting to stay around for another inconsistent season.
What I also don’t understand is how Emery did not build from the back. It was obvious we needed two quality cbs. Luiz was a panic buy.

Yeah kind of what I thought. I did see some good signs, the pressing was good, we looked better out wide and were more direct with less pointless passing. I didn’t even mind the tactical flexibility in games and early subs, as if used well it can be effective. I was always worried that he couldn’t sort the defence but I hoped that would come. However he seems to have never found a way to recover from that poor end to the season, and he can no longer get this team playing well. All his plus points he brought seemed to have vanished and haven’t shown signs of recovery for a long while. I had hoped he could turn things around during this patch of easier games, but we’ve only got worse. And for me if you can’t get us playing well in this run of games, with players back, I think it’s time for us to move on from him.
so the reasons we've given so far for our poor performances are:
- not having a good enough defence
- not having a good enough midfield
- players not bothering to put in 100% effort
- Emery tactics are not effective at breaking down defences
- Emery's tactics are not effective at building a solid defence
- Emery not being able to instill his players with confidence
I personally feel we have players good enough to finish top 4 and certainly we have a team not to be outplayed by the likes of Watford, Sheff Utd, Wolves and Vitoria.
I just can't seem to put a finger on the specifics of why Emery's tactics don't work out - do we need to give up the high press, defend deeper and play on the counter more? Or do we need to try and play a more expansive, slower, possession based game? Or is it literally just give us a different manager who can motivate our players to give 100% and then the specific tactics don't matter so much?
It would be physically and tactically impossible for us to play a slower possession game. This Arsenal team has put in the slowest, most lethargic performances I can remember.
We also don't "press" high. We often take up positions high up the pitch, but we certainly don't press. We're static and unorganised. Hence it is so easy for teams to cut us open with one or two passess straight through the middle of the park.
We are pathetic and the blame has to lie at Emery's feet. Other managers are capable of making players with far less ability perform effectively. Emery has our players regressing.
I wanted him to do well but there are no signs of recovery or, most worryingly, direction. I can't see what Emery's end goal looks like. What style and identity is he actually trying to implement?
The squad is better than it's been for over a decade (still not a patch on the top two obviously).
This is poor tactics, while there's always room for improvement in the squad they're operating way below the level they're capable of
Being a vampire and a football manager is taking its toll on him. Not getting his fix of blood blud
He should really be in some Vampire Diaries type series on Netflix innit.
Also the general crapness of the midfield and defence.
