Just a thought, Mersey - But can you really say that Evans is the best defender in the Premier League when you've put him behind another defender in that very list?

I mean, "best centre half" and I'd agree.

I think its gotta be vardy? Not only does he score the goals, hes got a great touch, good off the ball, works hard, can take on a man, and runs into channels for you. Underrated with his all round game.

If Vardy wasn't Vardy, if he'd been 5 years younger, had come through a proper academy, had the right grooming, had a Brazilian grandfather and didn't look kind of like a ferret, there would be top clubs all over the place fighting for his signature.

We got lucky, and we'll never see his like again.

Agree on Pereira but Vardy is more important. He'll be very difficult to replace.

Evans is a very good defender but if course not the best in the league.

Vardy - he is unique and the one player that differentiates us from anything any other team has got. He will for those reasons be the most difficult and expensive to replace.

Evans - Best? Maybe not - but definitely one of those most underrated. Evidenced by the fact that Man Utd let him go and bought Maguire

Re: Evans - I imagine Opta would have him as one of the best performing defenders in the league. And Soyuncu for that matter. I guess it’s quite difficult to assess against ‘best in the league’, as there is bias, historical performances, etc

So Evans at (admittedly an absolute snip) £3M is better value that Vardy at £1M?

I can't agree that Evans is better than VVD, who has transformed Liverpool from also rans to cantering away with the league.

However, he is definitely up there as he has had a similar impact on our defence given that we have an untried CB with him and two FBs who were defensively not the best.

Good debate. Pereira is a better player than Vardy. I didn’t say our most important, I said our best.

Good clarification on Evans Dunge. I meant best centreback, which he clearly is.

Ok, maybe on a par with VVD defensively would have been a fair point. I accept VVD is better on the ball, spraying passes around and looking general moody.

I’m really surprised that there is no mention of Praet and Benkovic in the OP.

Clearly the author has fallen out of love with Fuchs as well.
