"I made a prediction to my friends before the start of the season that by the end of September"
No offence Mike, but who didn't predict we'd be near if not bottom...
Let's hope the fortunes over the coming months allow happiness in your posts, and the next article is be one of splendour and joy!?
Keep The Faith.
UpsettingTheOddsSince2001
Most Bolton fans thought we would be near the bottom after the fixtures came out, yes we played poorly against Norwich and will probably get beaten next week but its what we do after that counts.
We still have enough to comfortably stay up and think we can start to pick up points over the next couple of months.
These murmerings of Coyle out are ridiculous, we need to get behind Coyle and the team and keep the faith.
Morning.
Congratulations on predicting we would be bottom, Mike. Like MT says, a lot of people on here predicted the same.
The biggest annoyance so far is the loss v Norwich. Had we won that and lost against all the big clubs, nobody would have batted an eye lid. But the loss v Norwich has caused a lot of aggro.
We can't be 'expecting' points off the top teams - especially playing 442! We are nowhere near taking points off them but fear not, we are not the only ones.
The teams confidence may well be shot but we have played 6 games. There is plenty time to turn this around.
As for the Chelsea game, well, playing for a draw would probably be the right thing. Play 5 across the park and try to squeeze their midfield. We often get absolutely bog all from Chelsea so I AK not expecting anything.
Anyone else totally bored of these morbid essays?
Let's repeat the same old statistics and ignore the bigger picture. Yaaaay.
Anyone else totally bored of these morbid essays?
----
'Totally bored' is a bit strong, but it is a bit repetitive, I'll grant you.
However...the content is bang on the money.
What I am totally bored with is 'we'll be okay'. Especially as I've yet to see it backed up with anything.
It's comparing fact with opinion.
I was a bit angry at our capitulation yesterday, but have calmed down a bit now.
I did say some time ago that we would have to hold our nerve with our opening 7 fixtures and that's turned out to be true.
Slightly off topic, but on MOTD last night, during our limited highlights, they showed the collision between Ngog & Vermaelan(?).
They found the footage time to show the injured Arsenal player having treatment on the touchline and make comment about it, yet there was no mention of the fact our player was taken off the field with concussion.
Similarly on the BBC site match report, they are getting all giddy about Walcotts injury!!
Is John Motson an Arsenal fan or something?
"What I am totally bored with is 'we'll be okay'. Especially as I've yet to see it backed up with anything."
It's going to be a strange football debate board where we can't have opinion and stick to fact?
We will be ok is exactly what should be said. It's called being positive. Guessing we'd be near the bottom after playing United, City, Arsenal and Liverpool.
We've been let down by one game in terms of results.. Norwich.
So let's calm down.
If you can find me the bit where I said we can't have an opinion, then hands up. You've got me. In fact you might be getting me mixed up with someone else.
My point is that the OP posted his worries based on actual events. Everytime somebody does that...boom. Calm down...injuries...4-5-1...we'll be OK.
But based on what? And that's what I mean when I say fact v opinion.
Based on the fact that we have played the best 4 teams in the league and weren't expecting to win.
What were you expecting from the first 7 games, Vera?
You said you where bored with people saying things will get better.
I suggested people where having an opinion, because it's based on the future and not fact..
So I stated people should be saying (opinion) that things will be better..
What's wrong with that? I'm trying to be positive with an opinion, although the current league table (fact) isn't nice to look at..
No issues Vera, just trying to create positive thought when a lot of people are on here telling me the worlds going to end because of an unexpected result against Norwich.
Believe me...I'm MORE than happy with positive thought.
And, as I hope you've picked up, I am more than happy with different opinions.
What was I expecting from the first 7 games? OK...statistically, 6 points. But also a bit of optimism. A bit of fight.
Can I ask, then...
Is your 'We'll be OK' based on anything except the hope that we'll eventually turn out to be better than a few of the other relegation scrappers?
If it's more than that...let me have it. I need some hope of my own.
My 'we'll be ok' is based on hope, yes. I feel that my duty as a fan. To hope for good results.
I can safely say that we are better than lots of teams in this league. We are being made to look rubbish due to playing 4 very good teams on the bounce.
The Norwich result was poor, yes.
I see us having a better team than last year and key players are returning. Ricketts and Holden will make a massive difference to our performances now. N'Gog is better than Davies.
These things give me hope
Fair enough.
Are you worried? (I am)
Do you think we'll survive as a club if we go down? (No)
Have the PERFORMANCES given you that hope? (Not me)
Vera
Everything points to us improving. We won't face the quality like United and City every game? Like I said, I'd have settled for 4 points, Norwich is my only issue..
Re fight, I'm not sure what fight gets you in the prem? Quality wins games usually, fight sounds like a Megson requirement.. We fought v Norwich, I didn't think they outfought us, just scored because of stupid defensive errors..
All we want is a decent home record, togetherness, and decent football.. We ain't gonna win the league, but we want to be competitive. We demonstrate that over 38 games not 6.. ESP when 4 of them have squads way beyond our dreams!
I want to be positive because I believe we can get better. You know more than anyone Vera, when I can't see the light, I'll kick off.. We had the Megson Wars and I succumbed from being positive to hating the man.. I ain't blind!
Sorry to labour this one, MT, but when you say, 'Everything points to us improving,' what do you mean?
That's the bit I need help with. What, exactly, points to us improving?
Not having a go...just want to be able to see what others can then I've got something to hang my very small positivity hat on.
we are improving, 5man midfield we looked a lot better on wednesday and against arsenal till the n'gog wheater sending off, no cahill, holden, ricketts, chungy, klasnic,n'gog, can i include wheater, the luck has'nt been kind to us yet.we wont go down we all need to pull together thats all. coywm
Because OC got us to safety when he arrived in January with a weaker squad in my opinion.. Lots of changes this summer and lots of injuries...
When these have been addressed combined with more teams closer to our level, then I see more points on the board..
First priority is to get more points than games played.. Once we've done that, kick in and get some form.. OC needs to find that best 11 and get some consistency going..
I might be wrong Vera, but we are miles away from worrying yet in my opinion..
Delighted to welcome you to 606, rivingtonmike.
By any measure the performance this year and particularly at the end of last season and the start of this has been abysmal, and no excuses of injuries, referees decisions or fixture lists can change this. The team lacks motivation, inspiration, confidence and fitness. These features are the prime responsibility of the manager. At the moment the only redeeming feature of Coyle over Megson is that he actually appears to be a nicer person. Team performance recently has actually been worse.
__________________________________________
I honestly think you are having a laugh.
The starting fixtures have never been worse and with our best three players injured what did you expect?
I defy you to select a manager that inspires a team better than Coyle, with the exception of Taggart.
Come the end of the season we will be in a better position than we were under the Ginger one.
For a first article you might have been better waiting until the season was 3/4 of the way through and then you may have had something positive to say.
Having said that, welcome to the board.
I changed my display name in July - it still applies as far as I am concerned!!
Come on guys - did you honestly expect much more - I agree about the Norwich result, but otherwise, no real surprise. There ARE 5 teams worse than us, so no need for panic.
When did Rickets become one of our "key" players? Last season most posters wanted to get rid.....now he is mentioned along with Chungy & Holden.
We've been let down by one game in terms of results.. Norwich.
******
Yes, but FAR more worrying is the 'let downs' in terms of performances, even in the games we expected to struggle in..... and THAT's why we'll continue to lose games to the likes of Norwich - until someone stands up and turns that round. We're shipping goals like a sieve, and that's a recipe for relegation ...
When did Rickets become one of our "key" players? Last season most posters wanted to get rid.
I must have missed that bit because all I can remember is a lot of people wanting him in over Steinsson, unless your confusing the two of them.
They are good teams but not unbeatable which is unfortunately how we have made them look. Next week I am going to the game expecting a pasting. 3. Coyle is not clear on his first team and has been outsmarted tactically far to often.
4. We are relying to heavily on a player who now looks to have had better days? SKD
We have a good young manager with lots of promise but he is far to naive tactically. He must learn and has admitted this himself. The worry is he has had time and the signs of this are not there.
On the positive side by far our best player is due back. He must play against Chelsea as another drubbing will destroy what little confidence the players have left. I am not expecting a win but to be in the game in the last 15 would be nice.
The games will get slightly easier.
