Lampard got the starting setup wrong. 343 vs. a pressing 442 is always an uphill battle if the 442 team play well (the WB's get exposed). Realized the mistake at H/T but it was too late, though was good to see he did actually see the problem. Young manager learning on the job, he won't make that error again
CHO's at a critical development point now. Needs to be protected by Frank for a bit, not thrown into the team again otherwise the pressure's gunna swallow him. Luckily the FA Cup's round the corner, needs a good performance in that game, has to start building a bit of momentum.
Some definite concerning issues but we're still in the top four come the end of Boxing Day which we'd all have happily taken at the beginning of the season.
Not sure how long we're going to stay top four at this rate though. Can see us being very busy in January. We definitely need a couple of very high quality additions that we couldn't get in the summer because of the ban.

Someone like Sancho wouldn't go amiss right now.
I wouldn't necessarily say we need specific signings, still no need to panic, but we could do with one excited one. Someone to get the feel good factor back, and Sancho knows so many of the current players it should boost them a bit aswell - seeing a friend coming in.
Very poor today,It was men against boys.
As Boom said ,we need to muscle up a bit and be more aggressive, and Tammy, your a big lad,put it about a bit more, don't let these big guys bully you.
Still, I'm pleased over the 1/2 season so far,and still optimistic for the future.

I think we've been struggling to find the right balance lately.
I'm not sure if Kante is out of form or just struggling in this current set-up. The only time we've been able to control the midfield in a 4-2-3-1 was with the Jorginho - Kovacic pairing. Without them together we need that third man in midfield or defence to be able to pass the ball with any rhythm.
Sounds blasphemous, but i'm not sure Kante is comfortable in an attacking two-man midfield. We need players who can contribute to both phases of attack and I think Kante only looks comfortable with the ball in the final third. A problem off the ball as well, although I think this is largely tactical, is that both midfielders are always found to be caught too parallel to each other, so time and time again opposition will just cut through our midfield. Makes no difference having the best ball-winner in the world if there's no chance for recovery.
Until otherwise, I think Kante's role in a 4-2-3-1 is best suited to competing with Mount for the no.10 role.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Kante is ok in a two with Kova, but not with Jorginho. Otherwise in a three
It's very difficult to see how we can utterly dominate a side like Spurs at their gaff...and then completely capitulate v a struggling side who never even played their best striker
I'm really flummoxed as to how this is possible

Spurs were at home, they left more space for us to exploit and Jose got the team selection wrong.
Exact opposite agst a Sounthamoton side that in fact gave won 4 from their last 6. I would argue Chelsra with 2 wins in their last 7 are struggling more than Southampton right now.
I'm also not convinced Sancho is the answer to our current lack of consistency either...
Someone said earlier Kova would've made a difference today...he really wouldn't - not in that display

And they've won those through Ings as well
We miss kova, his quality on the ball driving between the lines. He’s become our most effective midfielder this term and makes Kante or jorge look much better. It’s not a coincidence that our best run of form had a jorge/kova axis. Must say against spurs Kante/kova was wonderful.
Patience with CHO, think the fan base are prickly about him putting the club over the table with the negotiations.

I'm not sure whether that would be the wise move or not. Getting away from England for a bit, all the hype & pressure, to rediscover himself again could be the tonic. Could just as easily fall to the bench at said club and torpedo his confidence even more. It's a tough call.
The time to loan him out was last year. All the subsequent controversy seen the Sarri witchhunt could've been avoided if we'd taken a short term gamble (on leaving ourselves short on the wings) and sent him out before the start of last season. If Bayern were interested in January, he'd of had his pick of Bundesliga teams.
I thought Tammy was our only good player yesterday. Won so many duels and first half done fantastically before cho or willian lost it
To be honest, Tammy does at times look like Bambi on ice,but I still think that as he matures physically,he will become a beast, come on Tammy.
Our mid-field players do not seem to like the rough and tumble, which you get against these teams who are fighting for their lives,we've got to add some meat and aggression in their somewhere !
Harl I agree. Yesterday the people around me were saying how Tammys all round game is improving every game. He was great first half with little touches and hold up play
I don't think we have the attacking options right now. As great as it's been to have Tammy and Mount come through we need more. Pedro and Giroud are done here and never play and Cho looks like he isn't quite ready for this level yet and needs a loan.
And if you consider that Bats is being very underutilized by Lamps then we're relying on Tammy, Willian, Pulisic and Mount to do the business and score all our goals. That's not enough though.
Willian doesn't ever score much despite his Spurs heroics so we're basically asking three kids Tammy, Pulisic and Mount to score the vast majority of our goals. It's not realistic.
I think we'll definitely bring in at least one attacking player this window. Maybe even two - a winger and a striker.
Jorginho is dirt. That's why we lost. Fack him off to Milan.
It's a busy time of the season, like most I don't think the line up was the best but with the run of games we have on this period I can understand if the manager decides to rest players, if that's what he's doing.
