That's just a detail this about making money.
Think they should just stick to 5 days in my opinion.
It's not going to be test cricket then is it. Less overs which means more attacking batting lineups making it a glorified one day game. What happens if you lose a day with rain (could be more in England).
You can't beat that day 5 scenario on a wearing pitch where the batting team have to chase or play for the draw.
5 days can give you a result even if theres a bit of rain about. 4 days is far less likely to do that.
That's a vague statement at best
They should make them 4 day tests and have a reserve day just in case of bad weather.
4 days is fine, but 100 overs has to be the minimum requirement on a non bad weather day. If there's bad light then put the lights on.
If it changes to 4 days then 100 overs need to be bowled every single day no time limit unless its get to stupid o clock. Any overs missed by the bowling team would result in penalty runs been given to the batting team at the going run rate of the innings.
Start giving penalty runs and watch the teams speed chit up. Giving away 20-30 runs at the end of the day will hurt.
Fines din't work and penalty runs could create an unfair result of a game. An idea might be to suspend the team captain from taking the field the next day and no substitute being allowed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
And that wouldn't create an unfair result?!
If it goes 4 days, then it should start at 10 and end when 100 overs have been bowled, with floodlights assisting as required.
That way paying spectators get better value for money, which might make them feel a bit better about the change. It would also allow extra margin for rain delays, and it would mean more overs in the day to get a result. The extra 2 hours a day (ish) across 4 days would effectively make up for the lost day, but it would save the added day's ground rental, hospitality staff pay and all that, which is presumably the ECB's reason for wanting to remove the (often not required) 5th day.
It won't happen that way, of course. The ECB's statement sounds to me like a "Make a vague, non-committal statement and see how bad the fan uproar is before we actually go ahead with it." They'll probably just go ahead and remove the 5th day with no further changes and the whole game will suffer.
It's hard to think of another sport where the governing bodies are so utterly set against what the longest-standing fans actually want.

It less unfair than applying penalty runs because there's no way any captain would risk suspension whereas they might think a few runs can be made up.
I'm sure teams with a 4 bowling attack will be thrilled with 100 overs a day. They will be forced to find an allrounder even if they are not up to the level meaning a drop in quality.

Also a fair point.
We all know it should be staying at 5 days but it won't happen. The mere fact that the ECB have said they're considering it means the decision is basically already a foregone conclusion.
In the UK with how weather. we will have wayyyy to many draws. But then again who cares about test cricket??
Next they will bring in fielding restrictions , power plays and cheer leaders.
It's time the counties took back control from this ECB at the moment it's the tail wgging the dog.

Nice one!
Four day Test matches will be the death of Cricket for me. I hate the one day game and the 20/20 mickey mouse stuff.
They may as well just pack up playing altogether. Obviously pandering to the one day merchants again.
