Yeah we were in good shape heading into the season, without signings. We had Gomez and Ox just back after being out for the season, which perhaps people didn't take into account. Only area we needed for me was cover for Mane. Perhaps Minamino can provide the cover there.
In a few seasons the midfield and attack will all be around 30, so the next couple of seasons could be interesting.
Yeah the age of the squad is the only slightly concerning thing.
We are in a similar position to what Spurs were in about 3 years ago. They failed to build for the future when they had that quality squad. That squad has now aged and reached the end of its cycle and they are suffering badly from failing to prepare.
Not expecting us to make the same mistakes but should still serve as a lesson from an observers point of view.

Regardless of what happens next though you've already reaped the rewards in a way we never did.
City clearly were the best for a couple of seasons. Equally clearly they are not now.
The concern was your front three, if you had a couple of long injuries how would you cop3. You haven't so no problem.
Think klopps on a 15m net spend per year average with us, squads average age is prob 27ish now most the key players are entering 27/28 years old what many call prime years though the cbs usually a little laterand keepers even more so.
it is evident though how far behind city we still are in squad strength on paper our line up was like 320m vs spurs with a 50m bench of which half was llallana and over a third of the starting 11 was vvd n the keeper. Cities line up vs villa was 500m and a 215m bench. Look at that however u like, more credit to how well we have done.

I think City will be a huge threat next season, if they bolster their defence. They can still dismantle teams at will when they are firing and if we have a weakness it’s not putting games away when we are on top, we end up grinding out results which leave the fans on the edge of their seats.
I would like to see us look for an out and out goal scorer who will thrive on all the chances we create. Easier said than done though..... Agüero would be nice

Still think it was wrong not to get a striker in. The fact we haven't had injuries and therefore got through the shortfall is no proof we were right to not buy. That's just confirmation bias.
The fact we have got minamino in now suggests to me that the club were looking for a forward but nothing was available. To be fair, don't think we desperately needed anything so glad the club took the approach of waiting for the right player (assuming that is what happened)

It is interesting that Klopp started Minamino through the middle, in the Firmino role. I wasn't expecting that, although I only saw him play against us. Perhaps Klopp would like to develop him there. I'd imagine Origi may move on this summer and we'll get a player in to cover the left, although it is difficult when the player will know he will mostly play backup to Mane.
I'd also like Wilson to get a chance but I guess that will depend on whether we let Shaqiri go.
Also we may see TAA tested in midfield if Williams continues to impress and we keep picking up injuries there. Elliott of course is a player you'd like to see progressing. Personally I'd loan him out next season and bring Wilson in.

Sane was going to Bayern anyhow so they wouldn't have had him.
Our season is one of stability and just the fact is we've managed who we have had and added minamino now which was needed.
we had a largely full squad going in. but we've not had injury to taa, robertson or any of the front 3 either.
doing well. working hard and really driving ourselves on.
but we can't kid ourselves either. there not a team on the planet who can cover everything and we have not either.
we could pay for last summer in a years time as spurs have. we just wont know til lovren, lallana and perhaps shaqiri go.

Robertson was injured for a CL game when Milner played.
Or was Robertson a suspension?
That's starting. Doesnt count ganes players were on the bench due to injury, coming back from injury, cause I'm not Rain Man.
Tough start to the season with it all too, with acon n copa our front 3 were left with no pre season n little time off. Chuck in the extra games super cup charity shield etc

There's 3 years minimum left in this current team. Enjoy the ride.
We don't need to buy much in the summer really maybe someone who can play left or right back to cover to be honest. And only if anyone leaves to replace them.
Origi. Gone in the summer you reckon? Good player, great at times. Not an automatic replacement for any of the front three though.
If he goes, I wish him well. But .. has anyone seen him make a tackle, a la Robby, TAA, or Virgil? Remember that time in the CL final, the ball was laid on to him and the Spurs goalie came racing out. O made no attempt to get stuck in. The more I watch him, the more I notice it
He’s scored the winner in that game, no question, he’s scored some really crucial goals but, unlike Sadio for example, he doesn’t seem to get stuck in to win the ball.

Agree with this. He doesn't have that extra bit of aggressiveness needed to play in this team. Decent off the bench but we can do better and he can do better than being a last ten minute of the bench player.
Origi doesn't need to be a replacement for the front three. Having like for like players on the bench isn't always the best.
Origi provides something different to any of our other attackers and is happy to be on the bench.
I wouldn't mind keeping Origi in all honesty. Man is a cult hero and plays like one as well. Moments of brilliance and equally atrocious sometimes 2 mins apart...and he has coldest celebrations in the game.
