With respect, I think you may have the wrong end of the stick with what he meant, which is why you can't understand what he's changed his opinion about.

For me, it's pretty clear.

Not that it is a criticism - he's perfectly entitled to change his mind on that.

There's also the possibility that he didn't change his opinion but in public said what he thought would be best to say, as all professionals are taught to do.

Since he said that, he hasn't been asked about it. I changed my opinion, bang, no more questions and accusations of being a hypocrite.

I think it's better to assess what he said and what he has actually do, to find the hypocritical view. I don't see where he has went against what he said. He hasn't spent £100m, he hasn't went out and bought a load of top players and some can do that more than us. Nothing that has actually happened since goes against this feeling.

I think he meant that he wouldn't buy individual players for big sums - relatively speaking.

The part where he walks about if they get injured then you're stuff, means to me that he is saying he doesn't want to bring in expensive individuals that the team relies upon.

I think he then realised how important a couple of positions were for him and decided that spending big in those areas was necessary to move to the next level.

Obviously we can all interpret his words differently but the fact he's come out, laughed at himself and then admitted he changed his mind is fairly conclusive I'd say.
