Well good morning everyone and hope you all survived the storm. Blustery here with snow on hills but all is well

Only just hitting here Heb, conditions outside horrendous. Raining and blowing so hard water is being blown in to my bathroom through the extractor fan.

Fences and streets are probably a bit of an alien concept to you Heb, but had to chase 4 fence panels down our road earlier

Spart you know feck all, my flight is taxing as I write.

Good job you dont organise tours, ........... oh wait!

Apparently a BA flight has just beaten the record for a sub-sonic Atlantic crossing - 4 hr 56 mins - a hefty tailwind!

Scouse

Take a different flight if it's taxing.

The storm which was supposed to last until Tuesday according to the met office has blown itself out. Now sunny with a fresh breeze here.

You were adamant were you not, that my flight to Milan would not go today?

Spart knows 'nowt.

The weather forecast was for gale force winds for all Sunday. If that had happened you wouldn't be taking off. I can only trust what the met office says as they have better information than me.

Spart does know nowt. We went through all this yesterday. If he sees it written down he just accepts it as absolute fact, whether it’s a suspension for a left back or a flight to Milan. You would think he would learn, but no.

Just watched a great Milan derby.

Milan 0-2 up at HT, Inter score 4 without reply to win 4-2.

That is the point of science Vidal. You accept the current theory until another comes along and displaces it. Something is true unless shown to be otherwise. With the weather forecast you are always at the mercy of the met office and everything they say is true until it is shown not to be as you don't have all the information that they have. It isn't until you experience the current weather that you can say whether they were wrong or right. Medicine is just the same. You work to current theories until something else is shown to be better.

Ah no, Spart. You could not be more wrong, though you have had many attempts. The point of science is never to accept. The true scientist always questions, and doesn’t just wait until another theory “comes along”.

Spart's bang to rights and he doesn't like it.

posted on 10/2/20

He hates it. Twice in two days he’s made himself look pretty foolish with his pronouncements. “Lowe available after suspension”. “No chance of Scouse flying to Milan”. What next?

You question Vidal but until you come up with a better answer you have to accept. I don't have a better answer than the met office for today's weather although I have had cause to doubt their forecasts. Do you go to work and decide that the treatments you offer may not be right so you are going to try something else totally different. i.e. you want to be struck off.

I do it different at work. I always questionthings if I think they can be modified or improved upon, for example I had to reupholster a seat today, the factory instructions said to remove it and dismantle it to be able to do it, I had a look and decided that was poppycock and I could do it in situ, and I was right. There are several jobs I go my own way and have saved plenty of time and hassle in doing so. The experts are right a lot of the time, but not EVERY time.

Harper knows, he's a scientist. He analyses the problem, questions "truths", postulates a new hypothesis and tests it out. The proper scientific method at work. Owd Spart, he reads something on t'Net and swallows it hook, line and sinker, then regurgitates it as fact. It is no wonder we have Donald Trump and Boris Johnson in power when there are folk like Spart around. He probably still believes what Boris wrote on his bus about the NHS.

posted on 10/2/20

So how do you propose that I test out a weather forecast? The only way is to wait and see what happens or maybe you have some other way seeing in to the future. Please enlighten me.

We all do that at some time Harper. Especially with car maintenance where the methods described in the manuals are often over complicated. Well I used to but now leave car maintenance to others.

Spart, you need to start thinking for yourself a bit more, I can't and won't do it for you. Free your mind.
