Feck that. I’d rather every PL club collapse rather than get bailed out. I’m sure most players have earned more than enough to see them through most of their lives.
It's pretty clear here that we are going to see defaults on obligations in the many trillions. Can the worlds central banks bail out everybody without the Ponzi scheme collapsing?
It's obvious that the existing monetary system is going to fail spectacularly in the near future, it was in the twilight zone prior to this pandemic.
Will TPTB be able to create a new global currency and wipe out all existing debt obligations out of the ashes of this mess? Not without the four horseman of the apocalypse riding over the Earth once more.
I see dead people.
TPTB - you been watching that Angel show in your youth or something?
For the OP - no they won’t have to, and they shouldn’t either. If the game has gone to that extent where it is an industry that can’t survive without that cash and the players are greedy whores who won’t look out for the game then fack it.
That spurs story about furloughing the non playing staff while players keep their millions was a WTF moment for me. I’m sure it’s replicated in other clubs too.
The PFA need to take the lead on this.

Agreed on spurs, and Geordoes boss Ashley doing this too, seeking govt aid.
Paying players top wack still, but non playing staff get 80% wage off govt scheme, the cheap bastirts.
Juve players and Messi etc taking cuts ok...we should too in EPL, the pampered fools.
Can’t see a chance in hell that the government will bail out a leisure industry.
Why not bail out golf, rugby, tennis, the cinemas?
Much of football and especially the EPL have bragged about paying out ludicrous fees and wages (not all to be fair) and having an unsustainable asset to debt ratio.
If any good is to come out of this it just might start to rethink its entire strategy. Many clubs are now saying they haven’t the cash to last much more than a month according to news today.
Good article OP &
I disagree with the last part though, and I've repeated this on other threads.
"I have to believe if the PL could get itself out from these media contract uncertainties they would just call it a day for this season."
Why? Because the PL doesn't just need that alone. Perhaps you should add to your article the fact that the TV companies are supposed to be paying to the PL a tranche of money in May.
If reports are accurate this will not be paid if the season isn't finished. CanalPlus certainly won't be paying looking at their rhetoric. Its further reported that some clubs will immediately be in danger if that sum is not paid. The reliance on this money is hand to mouth for some clubs.
So the PL needs to get paid, not just to get out of those contracts. Therefore, if they scrap the season they should have a bail out plan in place for some clubs to survive until next season, in addition to possibly paying rebates of 762m back to TV companies and other costs we might not be aware of at this time.
Furthermore, if they get out of the contracts and scrap the season, then who says some clubs won't sue them? Some reports suggest some clubs are ready to sue. These cases would not be heard (in a timely manner) in the midst of a pandemic. Next season cannot start before theses cases are complete.
The consequences of not finishing a season are too great. IMO, the only thing that should stop us finishing the season is the cost of human lives. If we can avoid that then all other concerns are not the priority.

The PFA have come out strongly against the wage cuts. They've written to members asking them not to accept any deals at the moment because 1)It needs to be done in unison, if it happens and 2) They believe its likely the season will be completed.
The Prem is the product...they know it, the TV companies know it
If the TV companies don't get real they can be replaced down the line...
Amazon have already shown serious interest - they'll come to a mutual deal
As for players wages...fack em- they'll manage on less
The public would rage against such a move. Footballers wages and club earnings are too much of a hot topic.
Quick Google search... these are the most recent figures I could find (possibly there are more recent out there though):
'..the Premier League, UK’s top football league and its clubs contributed £3.36 billion to the nation’s GDP.' (2015)
'The UK music industry contributed £5.2 billion to the UK economy in 2018.'
So factoring in the rest of the leagues, and allowing for more growth in football than music over the last few years (whether true or not) both industries appear to generate similar amounts for the UK economy. Why then would / should one be bailed out, when the other is being left to fend for itself?

I had it on my telly on boxing day...seemed decent enough
I like Sky a lot though...BT is pretty good
The Prem would be insured surely.
these mega rich organisations shouldn't be bailed out by the government (who will only pass on the debt to us, joe public)
they should be allowed to fold, if they cant sustain themselves during these times
i dont want a society where gains are privatised, and losses are socialised
that's not capitalism , it's feudalism
Unfortunately that's the society we've got though, and we've had it for decades.
In general If a club like spurs publish result that show year on year profits
https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/pochettino-effect-tottenham-finally-one-18023808
and let me be frank, liverpool have posted 100mil + and stuff in past 2 years
then they can afford a single season hit and just tighten the belts and not spend big fees.
HOWEVER if city are let away with throwing their country owners money at the thing again and spend 2-300 mil then its tantamount to extreme doping.
Its the EFL that should be worried with 50% of clubs likely to go bust.
I think personally some clubs have got by like swansea for years getting older players in cheap but paying them big money. they were something like 80% of turnover on wages when they got relegated and have sunk since. Player contracts are the issue.
If players unions and agents are saying take no cut and force the FA's hand then I'm all for them being taxed at 100% by the government to redistribute the money to clubs or whatever.
Its nasty stuff out there and selfish stuff.
Could well find ourselves with a new look league next season...
Can't imagine too many of the lge 2 sides are going to survive, & we might even get a North/South split League 1

You need to check your facts? What exactly have Liverpool posted 100mil +?
Many Prem clubs will not make it to next season if TV money does not come in saan.
