It’s been a struggle dealing with the banks for the business interruption loans, they aren’t making it easy at all to get any funding
My company is well established and profitable with no debt so shouldn’t be any issues getting funding
I’ve paid all my staff In full for last 2 weeks & have enough for next weeks wages ( £10k per week roughy) but unless we get some cash in will be struggling from then on
The portal for furlough isn’t online yet to claim so that’s no help yet and that sounds like a month away at least before anything will be coming through so will have to cash in some of the kids inheritance 😡
I have 22 employees and they all go the extra mile for me so it’s only fair I do what I can for them

350 should be plenty in the current climate, it isn't like you can go and spend it anywhere other than on food.

People need to be careful how much they take as well as it will all have to be paid back at a later date.

Very true although not that much if you have a family to feed.

What really irks me is that people who were unemployed before this pandemic saying that they should be getting the same.

Currently on a s day week, whilst others in the company are on 4/5 days, or furlough. Not that I'm bitter!
I'm not doing too badly money wise but will be if this carries on.
I also know there are many in a lot worse situation than myself

This is my biggest issue with the government supports. As cold and harsh as it might sound, they have to make sure they are bullet proof so that people can’t take advantage of them, and we all know there are people who will try and take the complete p*ss.

Yeah it will be interesting to see how the taxes are handled. They will obviously take an increase nationwide but i assume they will also target those that required help singly as well

Agreed.

I’m sure it’s the same in other countries but Ireland has plenty of people who are simply unemployed by choice because they are just too lazy.

People like that should only get the bare minimum to survive on imo.

Getting 5 days pay is good. My beef is, I'm working to try and keep the company going but am getting paid less than others, who are not working.

I have mates who run construction companies who have workers still out on sites but have closed there offices and are trying to claim whatever they can. It’s going to be a nightmare to police.

Never been unemployed in my life, but 2 weeks before everything kicked off, I’d left my last place voluntarily as I wanted a few weeks break and I had a new job lined up.

Anyway, cut to 2 weeks later, the new job offer was rescinded, and my old job already filled. By the time the Gov stepped in, I was caught between 2 companies who I wasn’t a concern for (as they’ll have had bigger fish to fry)

So I find myself currently unemployed, with a solid CV and a ton of of professional experience and skill sets, without any kind of job market. Applied for delivery driver roles, stock assistants, but no joy (no real feedback as to why)

Applied for Universal Credit last week, but obviously a million people have also done the same, so absolutely nothing back as yet, and when I do...well it’s £410 a month....

So basically I WANT to work, I NEED to work, but here I am. Waiting for benefits.

That is bad luck mate.

———————-

Absolutely bud. And I refuse to become too much of a victim here because bigger things are going on and people are putting their lives on the line to beat this, but it’s a tough one to stay motivated and see light at the end of the tunnel. Trying to keep positive, taking online courses to improve my cv and keep me mentally active, and plugging away on job sites, but day by day it gets harder to self motivate.

And the reality is, in around 3 months the financial implications will start to really bite. Savings will be plundered, and whilst we’ve obviously cut back on many luxuries (a byproduct of the situation!), I’m very much aware that there’s an impending “D Day” before financially, the poo hits the fan.

Best thing is to keep positive. It’s hard to see the light right now but you’ll probably walk into a job once this is over.

Sorry to hear that man Not the same as your situation but the missus was looking for a new opportunity as we were looking to move west over the next month or two but of course now seeking a job is not really possible or indeed sensible.

My company is going to see a big drop in revenue, but it looks at the moment as though this will mean making a very small profit rather than a very tidy one. If the economic carnage turns out to be substantial worse, or longer-lasting, we would apply for government support to avoid laying people off. If that was unsuccessful, I'd suggest to the team we all take a temporary 10% pay cut (which I'd accept myself) so no one loses their jobs.

We're fortunate to be in a position that's less exposed than many. We're a business media company that's serving a market which is classed as essential, so our advertisers aren't going under. We're recognised as the market leader, so when marketing budgets are cut, our clients are liable to stop advertising with our competitors rather than us. And finally, most of our revenue comes from online and print products, rather than events, and those B2B media companies specialising in conferences and trade shows are really in trouble right now.
