Weird isn't it. Such a basic thing as sleep, that most people (quite rightly) take for granted, yet some people have either never really experienced, or not for a long lone time.
It can obviously have massive effects on mental health, and thereby your quality of life too. So it's so so important.
Definitely recommend anyone that thinks they might suffer from it, to go get checked out. Obviously, once the current situation has all blown over though.
Can't tell you it'll be something that'll be resolved quickly, but worth seeing someone about it all the same.

Yeah which is why I bring my son to the doctor everytime he's going through it as I don't want him to suffer the same way I did. Although I do think his is simply due to his tonsils.

I once created a list of symptoms to bring to my doctor. He took one look and asked me if I was depressed.
I said I don't think so. He advised to come back if I felt depressed. That was the end of it for me as I realised I was being stupid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you looked into, or had, counselling?
It's not cheap, but it's one of the best investments I've made in myself. Still have down points, but I know how to deal with them better now, and it's proved to be way more effective for me than anti-depressants were.
Worth looking into. As is meditation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not really a counselling type of guy. I'm very introverted. After the scan confirmed I wasn't dyingi decided to snap out of it as i promised myself i would if i got the all clear.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm pretty introverted too tbh. After I found the right person though, I found it very easy to open up to her. Would sometimes even find myself walking to an appointment thinking 'what the hell am I going to talk to her about this week'. Usually end up overrunning
But fair dos, we're all different, right? As long as you know it's a not a sign of weakness.

It used to be scary for me but I got used to it. Some nights it would happen ten or more times, waking me up and I'd be exhausted when I had to get up. That was when drinking heavily. Since getting married nine years ago, I haven't drank like that, so it rarely happens.

I'd be in meetings at work and fall asleep before I started treatment , fall asleep on train journeys and miss my stop , I used to be a mare . Worst I felt was when I started treatment and you go into sleep response, your brain is wired but your body is worn out.

Request a sleep study mate , I did you take some kit him attach wires to your self , return it the next day . And await a letter , I was having 60 apnoeas per hour which is high but some people have hundreds. Got a letter back within 48 hours so I knew something was wrong. So in effect for every hours sleep I was probably getting about 20 mins good sleep.

Basically you're caught between being asleep and awake and you can't move. I learnt to cope with it by counting to 10 and forcing myself awake. It's scary stuff when you don't know how to deal with it.
Some people report the feeling of somebody in the room or somebody holding them down but I've never experienced that.

Or just as you’re waking up.
It’s a strange feeling. The definition of sleep paralysis is a slightly casual phenomenon so descriptions alter. I’d describe it as a very vivid nightmare. Happens occasionally, just when I’m about to fall asleep usually. For me it is always a feeling/sense that someone or something threatening is in my room and they’re coming closer. I want to move/say something but can’t. As they get closer I get more agitated/scared that I can’t move but soon wake up at that point
The threatening things I have in the ‘sleep paralysis’ nightmares have changed, usually a faceless intruder like a burglar but sometimes it’s my flatmates lol

That sounds really strange. Can it happen at any time, ie even when you’re on the move ?
Or does it happen when you’re in bed

Just when you go to sleep.
