Always remember McMahon doing that “one minute” thing with his finger to his teammates
That and a lot of fans with green jumpers on celebrating at the final whistle
Good article. Remember the game well, watched it in Liverpool city centre with an Evertonian mate of mine, both of us cheering on different sides for obvious reasons.
Might argue that the "Aguerrroooooo" moment was the most dramatic finish to a season but hey.....
Aguero was obviously very dramatic as well, and the pictures of Fergie and the United players and fans is priceless.
However, the fact his one was a direct fight between the two contenders swings it. Saw the City - QPR one the other day. When City scored, QPR restarted by booting the ball off the pitch and sitting back. Then when the final whistle went Cisse was celebrating with Nasri. That is what seperates the two amazing conclusions for me.
I was only 3 at the time but was at anfield for the game
I remember watching this aged 14 and being bl00dy devastated with the result

I'd agree with this. For the top two to play each other in the final game with the title still to play for is big enough. For it to go down to goal difference and for the away team to grab it with a last-gasp winner is as about as dramatic as it gets.
95 was also pretty incredible (though awful as a United fan), with Liverpool doing us a favour with a late winner, only for us to fail to do our bit at Upton Park. Amazing stuff though as there were two grounds to keep your eye/ear on - United were laying siege to the West Ham goal while Jamie Redknapp curled in that free-kick. In the Aguero year, United had finished their game (a pretty drab 1-0 at Sunderland, if I recall) with City still 2-1 down.
I'd agree with this

When was the last time two potential title contenders played on the last day?
Best moment in football ever no question!

1989.
It is one of the things they deliberately avoid these days when doing the fixtures, so unless we get another Leicester, it probably won't happen.

Is there any reason?, I know the chances of it happening are very low anyway but a final day title decider would be huge.
My only guess is because the league is more likely to be already decided by the last fixture and that would make it a bit of an anti-climax compared to if the two top teams played earlier and the trailing team closed the gap. Or police concerns maybe.
Yeah, I think it is a case that the last day sells itself and they have certain times they prefer the big games in the season.

Assuming because more often than not the fixture would be meaningless as the league is normally done and dusted before then and they don’t want to waste such a high profile fixture.
yes i remember watching this match v clearly as a 15 year old
the match that really ended liverpool's 2 decades of dominance wasnt this one .
in my opinion it was the 3-0 defeat at highbury in december '90
My Dad couldn't handle it. Took his dog for a walk. Came back on 91 minutes. Gawd bless him.
Most of my mates are Gooners and I could be wrong but I don't think any of them thought they'd actually beat the mighty Liverpool by two clear goals.
Liverpool played a very cautious game that night, which in hindsight was clearly the wrong thing to do, as they were imo the better team overall.

QPR wanted City to win, as soon as their safety was guaranteed by full times elsewhere they chucked the game.
After the City goal QPR booted the restart straight out of play and all 11 players stayed in their own half waiting for full time.
If you think that was more dramatic than the top two going head to head all the way to the last minute of the last game with both still with a chance of title glory, and even after Arsenals second Liverpool having time for an attack, then I pity your opinion.
