That team was carried by RVP. Vidic, Rio,Evra were all past it, Rooney, Nani,Valenica were all out of form and players like Welbeck and Cleverley regularly played in that team.
How were they better than Courtois, prime Azpi, Terry, Ivanovic, prime Matic, Fabregas, Hazard, Costa etc?

Except for Costa, Matic, Fabregas and Azpi who all had outstanding seasons.
Azpi was good actually. The others only played well for half a season. Then Chelsea shiiiithoused their way through the rest of the season.
How exactly are you defining shiiithousing our way through the rest of the season? I seem to remember we beat United towards the end of the season for example.
Playing crap football, getting outplayed and relying on a few individuals to scrape through matches. Classic Mourinho.
16/17 Chelsea was a thought I had seeing this. I’m glad others mentioned it as well. It’s weird, don’t get me wrong, one of my favourite seasons for us, so consistent, good football. I really rate Conte for what he manages that season.
But, one of the reasons I rate what Conte did that season so much, is I don’t even rate the squad he inherited at all, at least to be title challengers. The man won the league with 90+ points with bums like past-it Cahill, Moses, Alonso and Matic being key players.
I wasn’t really surprised to us revert back to I think we ‘should’ have been in the league next season through combination of barely strengthening and Conte losing motivation/becoming unhappy.

That sounds to me like United 12/13 tbh
Conte did a Sir Alex that year. Got the best out of Mediocre players in a title winning team. If he could have just stayed motivated and happy at Chelsea, I wonder where we'd be right now.

Would they have the same manager as they had then? It's an enormous difference for United, with SAF we would never be in the bottom five, without him, different story.
