The new plans, which would come into force in 2024, state that the 32-team Champions League for the 2024/25 season would be chosen based on UEFA's domestic club rankings from the period between the 2020/21 and 2023/24 seasons

Yes the point does remain.
Stupid idea that will never happen
If there is only time for a smaller Cl next season then maybe just invite any teams who've reached the final in the last 10 years?

Conveniently 2 years of which City are banned
What joy the Cartel Cup will be
Just take the top 8 in the coeiffecent table and have a mini-tournamount.
It would make the EL more important though with semifinalists getting a chance to get into the CL

City would still be in top 4 UEFA coefficents for England and would still probably top the domestic coefficents.

that is 11 teams
round it out too 12 with, say...Napoli
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok we need 4 more, I say Benfica, Valencia, Celtic and Nottingham Forest.

Just pick the 16 clubs who offer to pay the most into the UEFA Pension Fund.
They'd probably go for that.
Have Napoli got anymore match-fixing scndals on the horizon?

The UEFA proposal is totally contrary to the ethos of the game. It is crass elitism. Football is about the hopes and dreams of clubs and their supporters and a "level playing field" where smaller teams can make history against the odds. We must never lose that to greed and stupidity.

Have you ever been accused of winning the Champions League in your 126 year history?
It is interesting - City broke the rules by paying their players a living wage and a player was suspended (without any evidence) for supposedly offering another player a bribe.
Sounds like a UEFA type scenario.
