plus my projector doesn't suffer from daylight issues. Visible clearly even when my curtains are pulled back and it's very sunny outside. Its nice to enjoy the movies on and footy was awesome really!

Have you got a white wall, or just light coloured?

white. But used it in the living room too where it's off white, and it was fine.

For reasons unimportant to the thread, I don't have a TV. For the last 6 years I've been using a projector. It cost around the £400 mark, plus you need a speaker - the internal speakers are quite rubbish 4W or something. I use a Bose mini-link, or something, another £200.

It's like being in the cinema. Massive screen, massive sound. 👍👍

If you have a white, or whitish wall, you don't need a screen.

I use a projector too. Even a solid-white sheet does a good job, doesn't have to be a wall.

Had the roof of my house converted into a flat roof top by an architect, and now have an enclosed portion. I've got a projector, a PlayStation, a counter, some stools and a small fridge in there. The rest of the roof I put a solar panel for 24 hour hot water and one or two other uses, but it doesn't work during the winter months, which is when you would want it to work the most

Might sound crazy to some, especially some of my neighbours and my brother said I was crazy when I did all this but it turned out fine. Thinking of bringing in a pool table and maybe some arcade games if possible.

If you keep your projector away from dust and the elements and clean it regularly then it will outlive all your other electronics. I've an Epson which I've used for many years now with no issues at all.

I was looking at ones between £1k and £7k, and there are £19.99 ones out there?Glad I asked before I bought.

Yeah the £20 one will be useless.

It really depends on what you're using it for. You need to look out for lumens, and to ignore the lumens Chinese models claim to have. Also the normal stuff that TV's have, for example pixels, full HD etc. The more Lumens you have the brighter it will be. If replacing your TV, you need very high, as you'll be watching in the day when the room is bright.

Also there are different ways of projecting, some use lamps, which are expensive to replace, so lamp life is an important thing to look out for.

Sound - some don't have ports for you to add your own sound and therefore you left with the sound from the projector itself, which can be pretty crap on cheap models.

Another important thing to look for is the throw ratio. Where do you want it? Do you want to mount it to the ceiling? How much screen can you get at that distance. Some projectors have very short throws. Some have keystone correction which fixes the picture, the angle etc.

You also need to look out for the sound of the fan inside the projector as some are extremely loud.

You might meet the right girl one day and all that will change

Speak to Darren, he’s got a whole house that nothing happens, only the Fritzl dungeon sees any action
