let me just say as a madrid fan, zidane is without doubt the most overrated of the "great" players often on these lists
people judge zidane on his performances for france at major championships, and a few standout performances for juve and madrid
he was never consistent at madrid, never dominated matches, and would go AWOL (like hazard) for months at a time
similar player to zidane in style and role ...but way more consistent and did it for a much longer time period...michael laudrup...who was also at least as skillfull as zidane
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally I never knew how consistent Zidane was as whilst i watched him most weeks for Juventus and he was outstanding, i never seen him that much for Madrid as I only watched CL games, where he was also excellent. However I loved watching him play, the way he played the game was a joy, for me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was pretty terrible for Juve in the 98/99 season though. He was also pretty terrible the 98 World Cup bar the final (he missed over half the games)! Then won the Balon D’or really undeservedly based on one final performance
Maradona
Platini
Zidane
Van Basten
Ronaldo
Maldini
Desailly
Zico
Baggio
Ronaldinho

I’ll leave out defenders and just go for entertainers
Maradona
Ronaldo 7
Messi
Zidane
Henry
Ronaldo 9
Hagi
Riquelme
Xavi
Gascoigne
Scholes just misses out even though his career was longer than Gazza’s, who I went for because of his exceptional talent
Messi
Ronaldo
Xavi
R9
Iniesta
Henry
Ronaldinho
Pirlo
Zidane
Kaka/Rooney/Bergkamp/Neymar
Tbf, nobody can be wrong when it comes to lists like these
Some people, with a supposed knowledge of football, don't include Messi in their top 10
Incredible !

I was thinking Romario to, but he was a little before my time. His best years were late 80s, early 90s. I was very young then so didn’t see him to much
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Romario would be in mine, he was prolific and never took the game seriously, renowned for not training or following club rules

Greats whilst trying to avoid the usual suspects:
Iniesta
Riquelme
Maldini
v.Basten
Dalglish
Larsson
Lineker
Matthaus
Cruyff
Prosinecki
Platini
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Iniesta and riquelme both class acts. Valderrama another that played the game in slow motion and made it look so easy
Bull
Romario
Ronaldinho
Messi
Riquelme
Iniesta
Ronaldo9
Valderama
Not sure I have any others I could add to that though several current wolves players very close to breaking into the club with Jimenez leading the charge

They're joint 2nd behind the bald genius
I’m not going to accept that Zidane was “ over rated “ even from a Madrid fan. The guy made football look easy. Unbelievable passing range, strong and a fantastic ability with the ball. Zizou was one of the best midfielders of all time.

Always amazed me how he could beat players sometimes without any forward motion. A little feint or drop of the shoulder whilst surrounded, and all of a sudden he'd created an extra 10 yards for himself. He was like a footballing Houdini.

nothing to do with his ability...he had plenty of that
more like consistency...during the course of a league season he went AWOL alot....didn't dominate matches the way a player of his ability should have
some of that was probably because he wasn't a great athlete...didnt seem able to be able to play 2 consecutive matches at a high level physically
he actually looks more lithe and athletic now , than he did during his playing days
in terms of how important he was to his team, his shear consistency of performance for many seasons...Raul
surprised how he is looked over these days in these type of polls
he was madrid's main player in the pre-galactico era, and during most of the 1st galactico era too (until burn out happened)
Ronaldo
Messi
Bale
Zidane
Zlatan
Berbatov
Klinsmann
Lampard

Do Madrid fans real deserve an opinion on football? They really are the lowest of the low.
As great as Messi and CR7 are I'll never put them in my top 3 let alone top 10. R9 and Ronaldinho were magical entertainers who seemed to invent up dribbles and moves on the spot that to this day I've never seen battered. I think I also love the party animal aspect of them and of course Maradonna.
Guys that partied the night away and still played with effortless brilliance and swagger. As wonderful as Messi and Christiano are, they just aren't interesting as characters.

By far the most disgusting delusional ungrateful fickle fans in football. Literally have almost every legendary player in there prime and one bad game the whistles and boos and white flags come out. Horrible fans. I hope Bale tells them where to go on his way out.
