George was the best player I have seen live.
Not necessarily the best because I haven't seen Messi live for example.
But over forty years going to matches means I have seen a lot.

I never saw his stats when I watched him.
Just a player with dazzling ability, who was good at nearly every part of the game. Watched him destroy defences, when I should have been looking at his stats. Silly me, I would have know he was just ordinary.

The words you use to describe him could be used to describe many, many players who aren't considered to be world class or the GOAT though.
How does anybody know how good he was if you didn't watch him live regular. Only about 10% of all his games he played were ever televised or filmed. (as highlights on MOTD or Kick-Off only, too).
Listen to those who watched him live each week and take their word for it. It's the only way.
You had to see them live then. Otherwise all you could see of him was a glimpse on MotD.

Looking at the title of the article, I'd say the most overrated of all time is the OP
I saw George Best through the 60's and 70's. A player with a mercurial talent who played on some pitches that weren't fit for Sunday football nowadays. Add to that a crop of defenders throughout the country who thought GBH was a legitimate tactic shows what a talent the man was.
