Bet it gets suspended again when one of the teams gets it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would they have to suspend in that case?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dunno, if there’s an outbreak with one of the teams and it puts many others at risk I suspect so.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Difficult one this, am I right that you can have corona for a few days before it even shows up in a test?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the new test solves that problem.
People aren't trying to understand the science. It might not work but the science is sound. Players will have been in a controlled environment for three weeks minimum before the first game and will be in such an environment for as long as needed. By that time the chance of an outbreak will be less than 1%.
Merkel has taken a huge gamble here, if a player loses their life (god forbid) there might be huge consequences to follow.
All these are explained in German media.
The Germans are not stupid and wouldn't do it if the risk was as great as made out on here. I'm not saying there is no risk, there is, but not as significant as made out and they know that in Germany. They are also expecting there will be hitches which they are confident they are capable of dealing with quickly. They will be quietly confident and with the added benefit of showing up the UK, US and other peer countries.
Resuming the Bundesliga is just taking the P, its floss mode, kinda like showtime. Germany shining in everyone's faces.

But snt you argue the same for anyone who is now looking at returning to work as lockdown restrictions are lifted?
Football is a job at the end of the day, if more shops and cafes etc start to open at the same time then everyone takes the risk, footballers are no different.

I think the "gamble" is that there seems to be a rush to get football back on when footballers aren't essential workers in the same way healthcare professionals, public transport drivers and shop assistants are.
Even though there are "normal" jobs which are tied to the football industry, football itself isn't a key industry, it just seems like football is something people would like have back because they like it and they're bored without it.
There’ll be torn hamstrings, pulled muscles and other such injuries galore when it starts up

You can’t compare a shop to football though
Even taking away from the fact that Football is a game, it’s a full contact game that needs hundreds of people to organise each game even with closed doors. It’s a lot safer to open a shop and keep people safe than it is to play a game where people are sweating and bumping into each other and basically doing the opposite of social distancing.
I understand why Liverpool fans are so desperate to get the season up and running. Making the argument about how it’s a business and smaller clubs need the money, but I absolutely guarantee you if an announcement tomorrow was made that the season was over and Liverpool were being named champions all of a sudden all that benevolence for the smaller sides would go out the window.
No, by the time football is back, industries that are not key will also be functioning. We're talking maybe 7-8 weeks from now.
We are now around 7 weeks into lockdown, no? I don't perceive this as a rush tbh.

"The second half of May," as stated in the OP, isn't seven weeks away, it's less than two. Also, other non-essential industries, like cafes and restaurants will be easier to manage than a contact sport with 25 people on the pitch at one time (players + officials), in other industries you can maintain social distancing while reopening, literally impossible to do that with football.

Second half of May? That's in Germany who are ahead of the curve. Some none key industries in Germany are operational. I was talking about England. English football will be back in July IMO which is over 7 weeks away and some restrictions will have been lifted.
Permission to resume should be based on preparedness and nothing else. Any industry that can formulate a back to work plan that meets the govt standard should be allowed to resume, even if other key industries have not.

Well to me anyway its you either play all 38 games or it's fully voided, you cant award a title or relegate without a completed season.
I disagree though on the idea that somehow football is different, yes it's not essential but neother are say hairdressers, but there's an active plan to reopen these type of non essential services, OK its not the exact same but ultimately the footballer is taking the same risk the barber is by returning to work.
Its not like the footballers are being forced to play in a corona riddled environment, also they'll be subject to testing more than the barber will.
Its a risk of course but if we don't take calculated risks to try reopen society then we're stuck as we are for God knows how long.
But if a player decides its too risky that's fair enough they can't be forced to play, I suspect many will agree to play though but that's just my own view.
