Statistically this guy is an exception.

But still a good reminder to those of us not in the risk categories that anything can happen...

A statistical anomaly.

I read your article and before I clicked on the link, I assumed the person was BAME - and they were.

Anecdotally, Blacks and Asians seem to get affected much worse by this virus. I have no idea why.

It can cause permanent lung and heart damage apparently, in people of any age. Scary times if you are a professional footballer.

Most people who die of death are old. Some people who die of death are younger. I actually know of a case when someone died of death at a really young age.

There's one pixel on my TV that doesn't work. If I stand really close to it with a magnifying glass then in my opinion my TV is completely broken.

How did Prince of Wales Charles Windsor got Covid and not even needing hospital the man is truly blessed for his age which makes Covid 19 puzzling especially when children and normal people of young age get hospitalized biggest conundrum that must be sorted or millions will die. I think Donald Trump is making wrong choices in forcing US to come out without vaccines

Trump doesn't care about you or me or anybody but himself.
And all he's thinking about right now is getting re-elected.

Yes, but she's female, which seems to be in her favor.
Nobody understands the full extent of COVID-19.
But boy, she got sick .... read the whole article in the NYT.

Who exactly said young people don't get Covid ? What the stats say is that risk of death from Covid follows the same pattern as mortality before Covid. Meaning the older you get the greater the risk becomes of dying.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are plenty of deniers out there, and on this board.
They think, well if you're young and healthy you'll only get something like a mild 'Flu.
Ain't true.
You can be a marathon runner and find yourself on a ventilator.
Kids get this stuff too.... and curious side-effects like blood diseases ... not understood.

By the way I am 47 years old and got covid and recovered a while time ago around late February.

I was in Dubai and recovered there mine was just bad headache and a flu like symptoms didn’t cough at all but had sore throat and after a week or so felt better and returned back home. I know exactly how I got infected and it was inside Emirates to Dubai the bloke sitting next to me in middle lane row was sneezing and coughing like hell I was worried he might collapse and die in the plane and that time no one was self isolating so he must have infected the whole plane load.

I did Covid antibodies test.

Scientists have come out and declared this to be absolute hogwash.

And you need to think about spreading this kind of info in my opinion, its a sensitive issue.

I read about a study in Chicago which showed that the reason for this is the same as the reason BAME people are generally worse off in society. Less likely to go to hospital, less likely afford top notch medical care and even being paid less attention by medical services and all the structural racism and stuff like that. Can't remember all the reasons but it made sense.

According to that report, its basically a reflection of society, the same way there's more BAME people in jails when compared to their numbers in the general population.

If this was true then the percentage of dead or critically ill compared to total infected persons would be higher in places like Africa and Asia, but it seems to be slightly lower actually. This proves that BAME people being more affected is dependent on where they are in the world, which is a shame.

This is weird because I've had these symptoms. Slight, distant headache, but sometimes sharp, coming and going, that focussed on the back part of my head going down to the top of my neck.

Throat was irritated for a couple of nights but can't say it was sore, there was just discomfort. Producing little sputum without actually having a cough etc.

One thing you didn't mention is that I felt the slight discomfort in breathing(that term makes it sound worse) but nothing concerning because all these symptoms are not new as I've previously had them when suffering from a regular cold or flu.

I wasn't sure what it was so I just isolated for 14 days. I spent the whole time videoconferencing, playing games and posting on here .

I try not to take medicine when I have a cold. Symptoms lasted 2-4 days perhaps. It seemed to end quickly when I read a seemingly factual article about covid and vitamin D. Took a big spoon of cod liver oil for two nights in a row and the third day I was completely fine. That's was two weeks ago.

Flying into Geneva next week, hoping not to be told to quarantine, and I hope to procure a test that can tell me whether it was covid or not. Symptoms were similar to flus I've had before so can't be sure.

Agree, I also tried to explain the other day it’s because BAME are the majority workers of people in the most high risk jobs, like nurses, cleaners, delivery drivers, ubers, bus drivers, Uber eats, Deliveroo, restaurants, plus 55% of London is BAME and London was the worst affected. So it’s not really a surprise as the majority of most at risk people are unfortunately BAME due to job/location

posted on 16/5/20

Agree, anyone can get it and anyone can die from it, nobody disputes that. But what the stats tell us despite averages being massively up, for men 35 and under and women 50 and under there is no average increase in deaths whatsoever so it as a very low risk. And a similar amount of those age groups (under 35 for men, under 50 for women) still die every year from flu, so as a whole there is no real increased risk or any change in average deaths.

It’s when you go up they sky rocket, marginal increases for men 35-50 and women 50-60 but then it really sky rockets for men 50+ and women 60+.

E.G the death rate is realistically something like this

0-19 0.1%
20-35 0.2%
35-50 0.4%
51-69 0.7%
70-89 1.5%
90+ 4%

And then obviously would increase/decrease depending on if you’re overweight, underlying health conditions etc
