You get the sense he probably wouldn't have made those comments if that was the case but it's a possibility. I think we just made a call to go for more pace which looks like a bad call now. However if we can make a better fist of it and set the Windies somewhere in the 250 region on a pitch then more pace on a detiorating pitch could be difficult to bat against.
Time will tell today but our position could have been a lot worse.
Overdose of ODI is killing test cricket
Sun's out, pitch seems pretty flat. Let's facking bat properly for a change.
England are batting at snails pace. to look like they care. the batters will still get themselves out to stupid shots though.
Solid stuff so far. Need to get into the lead with none down.
should be a draw if we bat properly

Doubt it, if anything Anderson wouldn't have been fit enough, think the selectors are of the mind they are going to have to get used them not being around soon so are swapping them out
I know Broad is Broad but im sure he would of shown more understanding of being left out if he wasn't fit.

They can't win can they? If they bat slow then you're critical and if they try and up the ante and get out then you're critical. Surely the way they are batting is test match batting and what we want?
Pitch is looking like it's getting worse, a 200 lead tomorrow and you never know
Solid start, but these two are getting bogged down now. 2 runs in 30 mins.
Would quite like to see Stokes come in next to add a bit of impetus.
Disappointing for Burns to get out like that but a decent innings overall.
That's what happens when you get bogged down
Sky showed Denly average as 29 is that test or 1st class
I want England to play a more positive game and actually not get out with stupid shots.. Looking like your batting for a week and still getting out is stupid.
Then I expect the England players to be top quality and talented. apart from 3/4of them the rest are useless
Good session. Pitch looks like it will deteriorate as time goes on.
I do complain a lot.But I go back to the only time I can remember England being a really outstanding team is the time we won in Australia and the few years after that. the top 6 were amazing.. Strauss/Cook/Trott/KP/Bell and Prior.Swann Broad and Anderson the bowlers.
that's the only time in 30 years of watching England..That we were really a quality side..
72 for the first wicket. That’s a mammoth opening stand for England
Decision to bat first looking correct now.
If the rules are the benefit of the doubt goes to the bowler, don't think that should have been overturned. Wasn't conclusive.
Seemed to be 50 and out for Sibley. The no-ball decision was very tight but looked correct to me.
