I'm not for one minute saying that what the McCann's did (if their version is correct) is as bad as what the abductor did.
However, the other day here people were talking about 'clutch' goals. Well, I think the decision made by the McCann's to leave the children was a 'clutch moment'. If they hadn't done so, and organised adequate childcare, then Maddie would probably still be alive today.
I don't believe for one second they intentionally wanted to put the children at risk but that's what they did leaving them alone. Their actions would have been equally irresponsible if one of the children had choked to death or something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No ones debating that
But anyone can see that Elvis’ comment was designed to try to make out that because the McCanns were educated they should have known better and that the sick and carnal paedophile was just acting on instinct.

I am not taking any blame away from the abductor, but whoever they are, they are sick. They are driven by carnal desire. The McCanns are intelligent and educated people who thought it ok to risk the safety of their children so that they could dine (and drink) in peace. Unfortunately their poor girl paid the price for their selfishness.

Diafol, surely you can see what he’s typed there. Almost excusing the abductor due to his ‘carnal desires’ and placing as much blame on the McCanns which is ludicrous

I specifically said that I wasn't taking any blame away from the abducted. They want executing. And they are worse than the McCanns for sure. But what the McCanns did was very bad in my book. Maybe if you are lucky enough to ever have kids you will understand better.

No Robb, you misunderstood the point. The abductor doesn't have any responsibility to that child. He is a sick man only interested in his own selfish needs. The McCanns on the other hand do have a responsibility to the child. And yet they decided to put their own selfish needs ahead of their responsibility to their child.
In fact, surely parents should be more empathetic because they would be more ‘there but for the grace of god go I’ ...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
nah.. because decent parents wouldnt put themselves or more especially their child in that position in the first place.
decent parents would look at them and say why in the world would you ever put your child at risk like that... and thats the part you just do not get
Robb, winston and barry.... wow... what a collective set of fecking idiots
It seems we're all in agreement that:
1. The McCanns shouldn't have left the kids alone.
2. The kidnapper is the truly evil person in all of this.
It seems what we disagree on is the subjective matter of sympathy. I'll be honest. I have much less sympathy for them than I do for Ben Needham's parents for example. A child snatched on a beach in a split-second is very different to a child snatched following a pre-meditated decision to leave them alone to go for feed/drinks.
It's a very sad story all round and the victim in all of this has yet to have her justice.*
*Having said all of the above it'll maybe come out in a few years' time that she was abducted by a wealthy, childless family and killed in a car crash when she was 13 or something...

If you risk the safety of your children so that you can eat and drink in peace, then you deserve the punishment that you get.

No ones debating that
But anyone can see that Elvis’ comment was designed to try to make out that because the McCanns were educated they should have known better and that the sick and carnal paedophile was just acting on instinct.

No Robb, you misunderstood the point. The abductor doesn't have any responsibility to that child. He is a sick man only interested in his own selfish needs. The McCanns on the other hand do have a responsibility to the child. And yet they decided to put their own selfish needs ahead of their responsibility to their child.

In fact, surely parents should be more empathetic because they would be more ‘there but for the grace of god go I’ ...

nah.. because decent parents wouldnt put themselves or more especially their child in that position in the first place.
decent parents would look at them and say why in the world would you ever put your child at risk like that... and thats the part you just do not get
