FFP calculations arent as straightforward as just what losses and profits are recorded. I think only certain things count in both sides of the balance sheet

Given we didnt use any of our 'allowance' in January i imagine we can afford a 54m signing

No one understands it clearly imo as there were loads of rumours/articles saying Arsenal had no money to spend last summer due to FFP and then they bought Pepe for like 70m
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They didn't pay 70m in one go though. I think they paid 20m with the rest broken up to be paid each year. Its why they dropped the Zaha deal as CP wanted 70m up front or at least 50m up front.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe but i read several reports suggesting they had no room to spend at all - they also signed Tierney and a guy called Saliba who was loaned back St Etienne for like 25m each

My basic point stands anyway

Just because you google a clubs loss and profit record and then subtract one from the other doesnt mean you understand their FFP spending allowance

What annoys me most is not United not getting him, but the way Chelsea handle their transfer business at times seems streets ahead of us 😳

They usually get good money when they sell, something we’re terrible at!
And they’ve agreed to sign Pulisic, Ziyech and probably Werner well in advance of the subsequent window/season.

Hate them as a club but have to admire their recruitment at times

Something that's developed very slowly since we're no longer the only fat cats of the league. In the first half of the last decade we were just as chaotic in the market as United are now, only with less money thrown around.

We've addressed each problem (inflating fees/wages, no profit sales, balancing the needs of the manager with the financial realities, going the business quickly, etc...) in stages. We're still learning, only two years ago we brought in a manager once pre-season had started, but we're always improving behind the scenes.

I've refused to criticize our board for years even though they still do daft things from time to time, because I can see an effort to correct past mistakes in almost everything we do these days.

Roman Abramovich, once again, on his way to assembling yet another decent side after a complete top-down rebuild.

His multi-billion pound war chest notwithstanding, you've really got to admire him at this point.

Bit different this time, last 5 years or so been working with a net profit, sold well, started incorporating youth players and got a young coach. Signings also young talent like pulisic and Werner.

Chelsea can afford it. if their club gets into financial problems.Their owner will just cough up the money. Their owner as already paid of a billion and half in debt.
Any other club would have disappeared down the plug hole

One thing I will criticize Lampard for is turning us into a club liked from the outside.

I loved us being that club all our rivals hated because of money, perceived "illegitimate" success, arrogant figures at the top, etc... it took the hard work of many, people like Mourinho & Conte, to keep this reputation even with the strong competition from the likes of Man City & PSG. Damn you Lampard, you likable b@stard
