Timo Werner - a good fit for the PL?

I’m excited but also a lil bit wary of the Werner signing. Anyone who watches him play is basically unanimous that he’s not quite a normal no.9 who can play up front on his own, or at least hasn’t proven he can do it yet in his career. Throughout Leipzig he’s always had a strike partner (Usually tall, links up well, less responsibility to be the goalscorer). This paradigm is also supported by his performances for Germany which are less good, and he either has played up top on his own or as a LW.

Ok all this isn’t an issue if we play him with Tammy/Giroud, actually this in isolation makes sense. Would love to go into the season with Werner and Tammy/Giroud. But when you add in Ziyech, Pulisic and the rest of our key players playing two up top just doesn’t really suit our squad (with Ziyech and Werner).

But I there’s probably a reasonable chance Werner is actually fine in the right system played up top on his own. I kinda think it’s a good thing that our club goes for opportunistic signings like this (good player, right age, not too expensive) even if they may not fit exactly right on first impression

I've watched him play a fair few times and he's never impressed me tbh.

Good scoring record this season though. He's pacy and a decent finisher but he's pretty much straight up-and-down, no special effects. Not my kind of player.

Good intelligent player. Someone who will do all the hard work but also have the quality to back it up. Has an injection of pace and is versatile where he can play through the middle or on the left.

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether Havertz would be a better buy?

posted on 4/6/20

Don't really know who Havertz is tbh.

So i doubt it.

I only believe it when I see it on the club website!

Maybe because I know nothing about him, it's not something I'm getting really excited about!

You’ve signed Ziyech, so Werner would make more sense for you than Havertz imo.

Looks like a decent signing - glad he hasn't gone to Liverpool.

He's fast and tricky ,especially coming in from the wing,he would be ideal for the future to go with Tammy, but we should give him some time to adjust to the P/L.
I think that Michael Ballack has had a few words with him ,so I have great hope for the long term.

Werner Giroud/Abraham Ziyech as a front three could work.

Werner started his career on the right, was moved centrally and now occupies the role between that and the left. Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi as neck up to the wide positions, that's not a bad set of players.

100% yes. Red Bull's coaching, scouting & youth setup is unquestionably one of the best in football right now (across all their teams), and those systems by chance are designed to produce PL ready players. Their players are groomed to reflect the buzz of an energy drink, all pace & stamina, and Werner happens to be a lethal finisher as well

This is a top signing (if it's finalized). Along with Ziyech, so far this is one of our best transfer windows since the early Abramovich days. I await to see how we eventually f@ck it up with great interest

Best striker we could realistically sign. Excellent business

Time will tell, but there is a good possibility that you have downgraded Willian and Pedro
