As much as my fondest memories of gaming come from the Amiga. One game I enjoyed and always remember is an old commodore 64 game, most will probably have no clue about.

Loved the sort, settings and enemies in that gane, how the vampires has devolved into weird suborders, the Roof top spider infested cathedral city and finding one of the vampire bosses already slain were highlights. Top game.
Loved the story, setting and enemies* that should have said.

Would love to see Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri updated to modern 4X standards. It's such an amazing in-depth game but really does feel like something from 20 years ago - everything is so clunky. The Civ IV mod made it much more playable but did remove some of the important aspects of it.
They nailed the cosmic horror in the game - everything is so creepy and there's a fantastic mix of optimism for the future, and the unspeakable things you're willing to do now to reach that future.
I'd love them to give the strike games the streets of rage treatment, rather than do a remake make a new game in the series but keep the style and format of the old strike games.
I'd imagine that when FF7 is fully completed we will get either 6, 8 or 9 as a full remake, hope its 9 personally, as that game would be gorgeous to behold.
I'd give anything for Grandia to be remade, I actually think that game might be my favourite none final fantasy RPG of all time

I think IX is the best in the series and really doesn't need to be remade. The cyberpunk theme of FFVII lends itself to being updated with flashy effects but you can't really do the same thing with the high fantasy theme of IX. The background art is beautiful even with PS1 graphics.
The mechanics are also pretty solid - nothing really needs to be fixed in that regard.
VIII on the other hand absolutely sucked, so is a perfect candidate for a proper remake. Get rid of the awful level scaling that actually made it a negative to gain levels, get rid of the terrible draw & junction system which meant you had to tediously grind specific monsters if you wanted to use certain abilities, completely rework the mind-numbing combat which meant the optimal thing in every situation was just to spam your guardian force summon as it was about 15 times more powerful than anything else.
Oh and make the protagonists less whiny unlikeable gits.
I think you could change a lot about FFVIII whilst still keeping it the same game.
Prisoner of War from the PS2. Loved that game and it would be great if made for modern consoles.

I was thinking about that as I posted my original thoughts.
Truth is while 9 would be a fantastic make the set up of 7 easily bleeds into how they would make 8.
you turn clouds hair brown, give him a leather jacket and place a scar on him, you have squall, reduce tifas *ahem* Chest *ahem* and stick her in blue and you have Rinoa.
I also actually think the summon materia set up from 7 would work well in an 8 remake,as would replacing the materia system with the draw system. The combat in 7 is much more combat focused with materia taking a backseat for the most part so having draw wouldnt be a bad thing.
Fighting alongside your force summons fits in with the idea from 8 and all you would really have to do is tone down their strength and lower the damage requirements to activate them, it wouldn't even have to be that much more that you see them, just enough for them to fill in their story line details,
My fondest memories are the old 8 & 16 bit games and arcade gaming so titles like Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Captain Commando, Contra, Super Mario Bros, Legend of Kage, Ice Climber, Battle City, Excitebike, TMNT, Shinobi, Peter Pan, Mortal Kombat 1 & 3, Out Run, Street Fighter, X-Men, Golden Axe, Time Crisis, Sunset Riders, Punisher, Metal Slugs, Bubble Bobble, 1942. That's when I was addicted to gaming...basically used to spend most of my time in the arcade. Every minute of every day...you only go home to eat and then back to the arcade.
How did we play with those FF7 graphics
