Herrera interview on United

It's the fact you thought that stat was relevant, TOOR.

It's meaningless. As the Stam comment shows, if anything, it might actually be a negative against Lucas.

But of course, football is more complicated than that and personally, I'd avoid using any stats of that nature when comparing players.

This has yet again become about Liverpool vs Man Utd players, which is disappointing.

Liverpool fans' approach to article about any opposition player, past or present:

Make sneery comment about opposition player - check

State Liverpool has/had a player vastly superior to opposition player - check

Spend next 15 pages extolling virtues of their player, derailing original article - currently in progress

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Still with the chip? Liverpool fans are allowed to give their opinions too.

Well you know what they say opinions are like, and for sure your board has plenty of those.

I'd have quite enjoyed participating in this thread had it been about Ander Herrera.

Of course I thought it was relevant. I stated that Lucas was great defensively and backed it up. If you think it's irrelevant, that's your opinion. I don't, which is why I used it to back up my opinion.

It could be a negative, afterall Lucas is a very limited player, he doesn't have range, vision, a goal threat, pace etc. but I was only attempting to back up my view on his defensive ability, which I think is better than Herrera being good at everything but not great at anything.

I didn't bring this point up, other people had been talking about it beforehand, I just added my opinion.

"I stated that Lucas was great defensively and backed it up."

No, you didn't.

You tried to back it up your opinion with a stat that doesn't in any way prove what you claimed.

I'm not getting into a prolonged debate with you about it - this is just a fact, whether you like it or not, and there's nothing more for me to say about it - particularly because I'm adding to the fact that Liverpool fans have yet again made a thread all about them and their club, again.

You're not?

Feck me, what else does 2020 have in store for us?

Wasted too much time in circular debates and arguments that don't go anywhere Elvis, and it's not fair to the OP.

Fair enough.

Yeah I like his attitude & work rate, he wasn’t THE most gifted and he tended to go through periods where he’d do really well and I’d think we have something special here but then go back to just a solid player.

A bit like a Gary Neville, attitude & work rate got him to OT, shame it ended but Scott McT seems to be doing nicely so it’s all good.

Wish Ander well

Herrera was an ok player nothing more.

I don’t think we miss him at all. We need better to be a top team again.

It’s telling that he was rarely a shoe in starter at any stage of his United career.

posted on 8/6/20

Good player for us more often than not. No one will ever convince me that Groot was a better midfield player.

He may well have been better under the freedom of playing for Ole.

However as said McT has come on leaps and bounds and that wouldn’t have happened had he stayed.

No Fellaini wasn’t better but it’s also telling that two experienced managers often preferred Fellaini to Herrera rightly or wrongly.

posted on 8/6/20

Wrongly. It is why we are where we are.

posted on 8/6/20

Don’t think Herrera would have made a huge difference. Other than Jose’s first season he didn’t really have any great seasons here.

Even then it was more that he was the only player who was consistently decent that season.

Fellaini was a good servant for United. I thought it was sad the lack of respect he got.

posted on 8/6/20

Players tend to perform individually better, the better the players around them are. I'm not saying I couldn't envisage a better midfielder than him in our side, but I think he would have got more recognition for his ability (in addition to his energy) if he'd stayed on as Ole gradually put together other pieces of the puzzle.

Personally I never rated him, Spanish Joe Allen, but I can see why Utd fans are fond of him. He did leave it all out on the pitch and had a great attitude but I said at the time Utd won't miss him and they don't imo.

In true Utd fan fashion though give it ten years and he'll have been world class.

I’m fine now, thanks for your concern, just sick of decent football articles getting derailed by pathetic comments such as those.

It's not derailed anything and your typing partisan nonsense. Have a bit more fortitude lad! Or at least be consistent.

Comments such as yours typically do derail these threads, you know that. If there’s one thing I don’t need more of, it’s fortitude.

I’m being perfectly consistent, I think commenta like the last part of your post are childish and don’t serve any purpose other than to provoke yet another Liverpool-United argument. It’s boring. I thought that when I read it, I thought that when I replied and I think that now.
