“It damages the BLM movement”

If you think not being able to watch one TV show on a few specific platforms while being able to watch it via a plethora of other ways undermines a whole movement. Then you are either a racist, an idiot or on the wind up.

👏

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t know why you’re asking the question. None of us as far as I’m aware have defended the Bilbao policy up until this point so you’re creating an argument where there is none.

But on the subject of Bilbao, they are a sporting club who have a commitment to promoting the youth of their local area (white or black) and are pretty open about that and I doubt anyone is so upset about not being able to play for Bilbao that they’d make it an issue.

Is it discriminatory? Under the letter of the law, probably and I’m not arguing that. If the Spanish government (or local Basque parties) decided to force Bilbao to start hiring players from outside the area due to the original rules being discriminatory then I wouldn’t lose an ounce of sleep.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
so you agree

that they should be forced to sign non-basque players?

equality and all that right?

I men you cant get on your soapbox for some things and not others if you really believe in this can you/

or are you just another half in moron who wants to spout garbage about the things they are about but doesn't want to see it truly enforced?

why I brought this up was to point out what I already knew, you don't really give a sh!t you just want to enflame situations. if you really believed in equality that very example given its also football related should've drawn a reaction from you

instead you're like yeah well whatever they can do what they want

Just makes it seem and gives the impression that black people can not take a joke or have a laugh and fully serious and even something as a minor as a black face in a tv show can be considered racist. It is way to OTT and gives the impression black people are super sensitive and soft and PC and can’t take any form of a joke, Which is not the case or intention, so again this is more damaging and does more harm for black people and the majority are totally against it.

Idiot companies are trying to go to far now to score points
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What on Earth are you on about?

“Black people” have not campaigned for Little Britain to be taken down, neither have “black people” performed the act.

This curation doesn’t suggest anything at all about black people. It might suggest some things about the media organisations involved and about the current sociopolitical climate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You have not understood his post

He’s saying that this is what it makes it look like and that it therefore detracts from the actual legitimacy of the BLM protest
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, it doesn’t.

Unless you have very serious difficulties with logic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ll let him answer but that’s how I read it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeh rossi is wrong, i was making the point Rosso that petty stuff like this gives the impression black people can't take a joke and want all stuff like this taken down etc when that is not the case and they haven't asked for it. And it then damages/weakens the BLM protest because it gives the impression they are just super sensitive and being all me me me and we want this we want that when it's not the case
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It would only give that impression to people who have cognitive defects, seriously.

Sorry you said undermines a whole movement. Semantics aside, that clearly wasn’t his point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The semantics in my post aside or the semantics in your post aside?

Personally I think removing one or two shows from one or two platforms even though they are still widely accessible - is pretty minor and the belief that it has any affect on BLM is worrying. People shouldn’t have their opinion changed in the slightest on, you know people having actual equality, because they can’t watch a TV show that even the creators regret.

I love when people - let’s call them lockdown deniers - think that because the numbers from covid aren’t as high as what was projected means that the lockdown wasn’t needed.

I wonder why those numbers weren’t as high 🤔 Oh yeah, the lockdown stopped that from happening.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
why are you avoiding my Bilbao question?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you know why they have that policy?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am not entirely sure

but please inform me why their historical selective discriminatory policy is no less racist than anything else

now remember just because it was ok back in the day doesn't mean its ok today....
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Read up on Basque nationalism. A lot of those northern provinces have historical differences with Madrid and the south, fielding local players was a small way of preserving the identity of the region. I’m not saying I agree with it, I’m just saying in the grand scheme of things there are probably more important things to worry about.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
like censoring Little Britain?

or Oscar winning gone with the wind?

come on, if you want equality its got to be unilateral

😅 I’ll make sure to not bring up one point without attaching alllll the other issues in the world so as not to appear fake

You’re taking his post too literally I think.

We’re here talking about the TV show, of course getting rid of it is pretty minor but to think that it will have no effect on the perception of the BLM movement is rather naive.
You’re saying that there isn’t one person out there who reads the story about the show going off those platforms and overreacts and reinforces their already ignorant and/or racist opinions? As he said to some people (not clever people), it will come across as though black people have complained about it when the reality is I bet that the majority of complaints are from white people

Like I said, he’s not saying that it will ruin the entire movement, but he thinks it belittles the movement and I see what he means. They’re protesting against people being killed, axing a TV show is pretty minor (to use your own words).

Put it this way. The black community express concerns about police brutality, harassment, discrimination and death. The white community are concerned about Little Britain being taken off iPlayer and Netflix.

You think that unless one person isn’t out there fighting all the perceived injustices in the world they’re not being real to themselves. Which I’m sure if you dig deep in your soul you’ll realise is a bit silly.

If the people in the Basque Country feel so upset about a discriminatory policy and want to start a movement to change things they have my support. Don’t know what else I can say to please you sir.

It does matter. They will be against the movement even more and also there might be people on the fence about whether to support BLM or disagree with it and then see this result as censorship and the beginning of a path towards a 1984 style world and point the finger at the BLM movement.

For the few hundred people who complained, I think it was a silly thing to do as it opens a huge can of worms, huge.

I actually never said it would have no effect on the perception of the movement. I know how stupid people can be, it’s why we voted Brexit, or why they have to tell you not to drink bleach. My point is that the people whose perception will be effected are either stupid, racist or on the wind up.

I think any little thing they can use to undermine a movement, they will - and thus to accept any kind of protest it would have to be whiter than white (lol). As we have all seen; peaceful, lawful and fair protests aren’t taken well (Fitzpatrick) and/or no change is made (Windrush Protests).
