Excellent first season for Frank given he didn't get the opportunity to upgrade the team last summer.
I expect you guys to spend a few quid this summer and progress further next season, how far I'm not sure but exciting times for chelsea fans for sure.
But it is indeed Chelsea who have had a much more injury struck here, with our best players at times (rudiger, kante) being injured for months at a time
-------------------------------------
totally disagree with that.
we have missed Pogba pretty much the entire season, Martial for long chunks and rashford for an extensive spell so saying you have had it much worse just isnt true ( and thats without the likes of Bailey and Tuanzebe)
as for Lampard i think he has done a really good job in his first season despite results being a bit hit and miss at times ( but then again that could be said for any club apart from Liverpool)
Couldnt have been easy to come in and not be able to change things in regards to playing staff because of the restrictions.
the signing of Hakim Ziyech is decent and it will be interesting to see if Roman backs him financially as he has with previous managers with him not being a big managerial name.
I believe we are actually third and only a couple points behind liverpool in the "expected results" table.
This is indeed true, this lot for instance have you just 4 points behind.
https://understat.com/league/EPL
As for the injuries, I guess the issue at United hasn't necessarily been that we have had more injuries than others, but that our injuries have been to key players (Rashford rather than Lindelof, Pogba rather than Matic), and that there is a considerable gap between some of our first 11 and some of the back ups (most obvious example is how often Lingard and Perreira have played this season).
I would say that if everyone is fully fit chelsea have arguably a better squad than united, but i would probably still fancy united's first 11 (and here i'm adding zitech and werner to chelsea's 11, and optimistically adding sancho/a decent right winger to united's)
As for the question, if you lose your best player, have a transfer ban, suffer a lot of injuries, and have a new manager (and a manager new to the PL), you can't be too unhappy if you get top 4 can you? Bayern was a tough draw, so wouldn't lose too much sleep over that, but realistically top 4 was as good as it was ever going to get this season wasn't it?
Good Replies boys, its been a very tough year with the amount of injuries to key players.
Don't agree with you about utds first 11 though, we have dominated them this year in games but theyve completely done us with a game plan.
From utds first 11 i'd take rashford and maguire, and maybe bruno if he keeps this form up.

yeah exaclty, i think we overachieved at the beginning of this season which skewed peoples opinions.
The worst thing this year is it should have been key to reece james, loftus cheek, pulisic and hudson odoi to really cement themselves in the first team but due to injuries we havent been able to do so.

Your young players are obviously interesting, if James/Gilmour can be as good as they currently hint at, Abraham gets more used to the PL, and CHO (and RLC - who I have liked for England certainly) come back from injury fully, that's really full of promise.
there has been a lot of talk about both teams, Utd especially needing so many years to be competing for the league again but for me thats rubbish.
in utd case this season we were the first team to take points off liverpool and have beaten city and chelsea home and away, beat leicester, spurs and wolves... all teams above us or in and around us so we are more than capable of going toe to toe with teams and coming out on top.
our issue has been against teams that sit back and we have struggled to open them up, which is where Fernandes has made a huge difference.. we just need to be consistent.
chelsea are similar, plus both have fairly young squads with players who will only likely improve
I think it was you I was saying to thatChelsea have easily given us our hardest games imo.
I think he's doing a good job even if he gets fifth really. I like the football and a lot of the players but there are some system errors (likely gave bern negated with a full squad) that have led to the dropping of points. Similar to Klopp first coming here and teams left two up top and hit us long, so despite dominating in general goals were lost.
Throw in the form of Kepa too. Not entirely sure what Lampard can do about that really. He didnt sign him, he's a kid in terms of keeping and his stats are pretty dire. Saying that he made some ridiculous saves against us but does he have the worst save percentage now? Will he remain dropped?
If we finish in the top 4, I'd give him a 7/10. Maybe seems harsh but we had a very poor run of form midway through the season that I just can't ignore. The team won't play at 100% throughout the season, I know that, but the results in that period when we weren't at our best were shockingly bad. I think that's a learning experience for Lampard that could better him as a manager though.
Full marks immaterial of getting top 4. This season was about laying foundations for something better from the beginning & Lampard's achieved that already with games to spare (in that respect he's done better than Sarri with worse results).
I couldn't be less fussed about top 4 this year. The argument is it brings in more money & attracts the better players..... we have sh!t tons of money either way & are bringing in quality players (Ziyech, Werner) without it, so those points are moot this year. If it's to be Europa no sweat, we'll win it at a cater with our squad next year

ok.. im sure you will
cater? ... I believe I meant canter.
Just my opinion but yeah, United can have 4th, I'm not bothered. Not only are we bringing in the quality regardless, this doesn't seem like a squad that'll look to greener grass either - Kante maybe but he's on 300k/w! This particular season because of the circumstances I don't see the down side, or should I say the massive perception of missing out in failure.

Indeed it was me and the proof is in the pudding. Our results haven’t matched our performances for the most part but hope we can kick on. In regards to kepa he’s had some very good games this year but a lot of poor ones. He was good last season though so I am holding out hope for him.

Utd are very much like wolves last year. Can sit back and counter against the good teams, but if you want to win anything you can’t play like the underdog imo. Will have to change the way you play soon, can only talk the games against Chelsea but I find it a miracle we didn’t win Atleast one of those. I feel this utd team could very dangerous in Europe playing like that though.

This is fair based on this season, obviously we've never been able to field Pogba + Bruno + Rashford at the same time, I'm hoping that with a fit squad (and players like Lingard and Pereira being dropped) we can eventually become a little more aggressive and progressive in our style.
Yeah Bruno looks a great player so far!

Not at all. That confidence is based on the fact we'll have the squad depth (particularly in midfield) to field a competitive team throughout the competition, injuries permitting of course.
Also easy to underestimate a competition (if that's how you perceive it) everyone claims is hard when the last two times we competed we won it - in 2013 with a paper thin squad playing 2/3 games a week towards the end of the season
