Anyone know what kind of deal he was wanting? Like players comparable to?
Will be playing for someone like Celta Vigo or Hoffenheim in 5 years. No big loss.
The praise he has received is high, but I'm sure if there was more to his ability, he would be at least knocking on the first team door.
From wiki:
Gomes' preferred position is as an attacking midfielder. His playing style has been compared to that of Ronaldinho due to his creativity, composure and dribbling.
In January 2015, Nani described Gomes as Manchester United's next star.
Manchester United graduate Danny Webber said: "Gomes is still very small, but he sees the game seconds before others. Angel is like Paul Scholes; he can dictate a game with his intelligence."
Don't watch the reserves so not gonna pretend that I know if he's good enough but I've always felt his size would be an issue in the PL. Will be interesting to see who he goes to and how much of a fight there is for his signature.
He didn't step up when called upon. It's a shame, as he looked go in the academy, but many do. Making that next step is down to way more than skill alone though.
i believe the phrase is "don't let the door hit you on the way out".
like others, i don't watch full reserve matches - though has he even made a bigger impact there than, say, garner? - but at first-team level it doesn't look like we'll be missing much. and we don't see him in training, but there must be some reason lingard and perrerira have picked up plenty of minutes this season whilst he has sat on the bench/at home.
in fact, given his minimal impact on the team, and how long this has been going on, i'm tempted to label it the most tedious contract negotiation in united's history.
Ravel Morrison went on to smash it in Italy, Mexico, Sweden and for several clubs in England all by the age of 27. Proven in the best league in the world as well as abroad. This is what puts him above Messi.
This is Paul Pogba part 2.

Nah, Pogba had/has all the tools to become a huge success story from a young age. Gomes is just a tricky dwarf who would make a great FIFA signing

I love his mullholland driving runs from midfield
We don't know exactly what the breakdown in negotiations is over, but it's likely either game time or money...
If it's money, I'm conflicted. He's not done anything worth a bumper contract yet, but then neither have Mata, Pereira and Lingard.
If it's minutes, it's more complicated. Gomes should have been going out on loan to the Championship, which I'd hope was made clear to him. It's possible he didn't want to go on loan, which is a strange position to take. Or he hasn't been offered a loan and himself can't understand why. Lot's of unknowns but a real shame as he's an excellent talent.

Shame for him he just didn’t take the chances he was given when he played
Mason Greenwood - that guy is worth dying on a hill for. Not Angel Gomes

he's got a blue velvet touch
If he's moving because of a lack of game time does he think he's likely to get more of a chance at either Chelsea or Juve (the 2 clubs supposedly interested)?
If he's moving for money they although he probably has seen others getting undeserved pay rises, he needs to understand that he hasn't even broken through into the first team.
But like Berba says, who knows?
Even if he does make it big elsewhere, occasionally losing young talent is part of football and not worth losing sleep over. Once in a while a good player you want to keep feels he has better opportunities elsewhere, whether that's getting a pay rise sooner or getting a better shot at first team football. a club just has to accept it and focus on building with the resources it possesses. City lost Sancho and I'm sure regretted it, but probably haven't lost much sleep over the last couple of years, because the management whose strategies and calculations created the situation where Sancho decided to leave has been highly successful.

He did ok given he often featured in heavily rotated teams - even had a few standout moments and had a really strong pre-season.
I don't think we have enough data to really judge his performances in the first team. What's clear is that he's got excellent potential and we've (likely) lost a player the club didn't want to lose.
Can see him going to Dortmund and developing into a top playmaker.
In a less physical league, I think he will shine. Potentially a top player, but just won’t get the minutes for us, mainly due to concern over his size for the PL.
Gomes deserved to play over some players who consistently failed to deliver this season like Lingard. I called this ages ago but I suspect he didn't get game time because he wouldn't sign on the dotted line.
He's a top player, great technical ability and he would have only got better.
Utd should now sign Grealish because there isn't a suitable replacement for Fernandes at the club, if he gets injured.

Yea he's not going to get in the Chelsea or Juventus team. Chelsea have Barkley, Kovacic, Mount and RLC who all occupy his position and will be ahead of him.
If anything, the only players who might be in his way at United is Pogba & Bruno. He's got a good chance I'd have thought of usurping Lingard, Mata & Pereira.
With all of that said, he could still sign a new deal.
It's worth noting that the club have high hopes for Hannibal Mejbri who was supposed to be fast tracked to the first team.
Plays in a similar role to Gomes, maybe this is why the club didn't go all out to keep him.
annoying that, yet again, we feel to get any sort of decent transfer fee for a player.
assuming this is true, in recent years we've lost gomes, zaha, michael keane, and januzaj for less than the price of one solanke.
Like I thought, they wouldn't come to an agreement because United couldn't offer the one thing he wants and that's first team football.
I really don't think this was about anything else going by what I've read. I think he's probably made a wise choice but that will also depend on where he goes next and I'm very interested to find out where that is. I'm sure there'll be plenty of interest.
There looked to be something there in pre-season however he didn't make much of an impact in competitive games although he didn't play that many minutes really.
I wish him all the best.
Too small and unproven if he leaves. Technically gifted and the next big thing if he stays. I have never seen him play.
