Burnley v Wolves Match Preview

We defo deserve credit for today, no doubt about that, we went at them from the off, something we haven't done of late and no doubt the fresh faces had a big part to play in that.

Glad to see Nuno recognised the issues and was proactive today as well, now if we can carry that into midweek we still have a shot at a top five finish.

Not sure we were excellent DJ as I thought it was a pretty quiet first half and I wonder what the comments would have been from some on here had we not got that penalty right on HT.

Much better second half and we certainly deserved the win, albeit against a very poor Everton side.

Confidence will be high going into the game against Burnley, but we will likely be without Neto. Impressed with Podence and he can give us the usual pace we need up front. Neves was my MoM. impeccable performance capped by that incredible tackle and pass for Jota's goal. Boy did he that one to go in after the miss hit shot earlier.

Well done Nuno and the lads,

That goal will have done Jota the power of good, much needed and hopefully he can finish this season like he finished the last one.

If we can beat Burnley that could set up a cracking last day with Chelsea as we really should beat Palace.

Lol. That old chestnut. When Wolves lose its because Wolves were crap, when Wolves win it’s because the opposition were crap. How about taking a positive view

Wolves were excellent today. All the players did well from start to end and Everton weren’t allowed to get going. We’d have beaten most Premier teams today

Isn't his first line high praise? Everton were garbage though and nowt wrong in saying that.

Cinci, I stopped listening to DJ, he sees everything through rose coloured glasses and he never actually reads what I put.
I do not run the team down I just say it as I see it and will continue to do it that way.

I think one of the major differences was the intensity that Podence added to our attacking play. He always seemed to be looking to pop up in space, make something happen and played at a high tempo. I think Neto is similar as well, which is why he provides such a difference from the bench.

Lately, we have been a little bit static up top. Jota is usually been good at finding those pockets and playing on the half turn, but hasn't been doing it so much lately. Hopefully that goal will have boosted his confidence and we see him go through one of his purple patches. I'd like to see Nuno start him and Podence against Burnley.

Everton stood off Neves and allowed him to do what he wanted a lot of the time. We all know how good he is when he gets time on the ball. I think playing with that intensity from the beginning up front, with the wide forwards constantly looking to find space; affords Neves more room to do his thing. Us playing on the break for 60-70 minutes every week is probably why we havent seen the best of him this season.

Its a shame we didnt dish up the five goal thrashing that our (and ok Everton's) performance deserved. Jota deserves an assist for the sitter that Adama fluffed. Burnley is a tough place to go and get a result but Im a bit more confident that we'll get something out of it than I was this time yesterday.

I think Neves has been fantastic this season. Overall he would probably get my vote for player of the season. Other players have been very good at times but I think he is our most important player. I sometimes think his contribution isn’t noticed much unless he is knocking 40 yard passes or scoring from 30 yards, but there’s so much more to his game than that

Burnley will be a tough game. They are in their best form of the season at the moment. I think we are better than them, but they are the type of team that tends to succeed in stifling our game. I would say a draw is the most likely outcome

could be good news for us if it leads, as it is likely to, a diminution of ffp regulations

I think a lot of clubs owned by wealthy investors will look at what City have done and see it now as fair game. FFP was designed to try to level the playing field a little for clubs that don’t have billionaire owners. I suspect this ruling will lead to the gap between the elite clubs and the rest getting a whole lot bigger

posted on 13/7/20

This is essentially about disguising wealthy owners pumping cash in to clubs as sponsorship. I would expect now that we'll see a lot of stadiums changing name with this green light. The Fosun Football Stadium has a ring to it.

posted on 13/7/20

Not got a very pleasant ring to it. Be sad if the name changed from Molineux but there might be a certain inevitability

Following the Man City ruling today;

The top 4 in the Premier League will qualify for the Champions League
5th and 6th go into the Europa League. If Arsenal win the fa cup then they go into the Europa League. If anyone else left in the competition wins the fa cup then 7th in the Premier League goes into the Europa League.

But if an English team wins the champions league or Europa League this season then they qualify for next years champions league. If that team finishes outside the top 4 in the premier league then England would have 5 champions league places. But as England can only have a maximum of 7 teams in Europe then they would only then have two teams, 5th and 6th, in the Europa League

Got it?

posted on 13/7/20

So presumably if we or Man U win the Europa and and finish 5th or 6th, 7th spot gets Europa.

Would be good to avoid the qualifying stage of the Europa if we can.

I guess that’s true oldie. The prelims would be a bigger nightmare than last season with a heavy fixture list following on from virtually no summer break

The other thing up in the air is the summer transfer window. Still not decided when it will start or end. They are trying to agree consistent dates across Europe but complicated by various ends to this years leagues and starts to next season. All that is certain is that it won’t start until this season has ended

Improving team Southampton. And just about keeps Utd in touch for us

posted on 13/7/20

In touch but still going to be hard to bridge that gap. Last day though, Leicester play Man United so they can't both get 9 out of 9.

If we don't beat Burnley we won't be catching any of them

posted on 13/7/20

5th or 6th is the best we can realistically hope for now.
Our only chance of CL football next season is to win the Europa League. A 2-0 win over Man U in the final would be the stuff of dreams

posted on 13/7/20

Yeah the CL dream is dead after today's ruling regardless. 5th 6th no big difference now. Anything less would be disappointing.

A lot of teams are improving. It's going to be a much tougher league next season.
