Dier says Mourinho was a factor in decision: "My clear objective & the manager's clear objective is to try to win trophies for the club. The manager, his record, his mentality towards winning trophies, that was a huge thing for me."

Also says he wants to become of the best CBs in the PL: "That was one of the reasons why I wanted to stay here & commit my future here because I feel like I want to prove myself in this position in the PL and I feel like Tottenham is the best place for me to do that."

Yawn!

Can't say I'm thrilled with this. My worry is that even though the pairing of Sanchez and Alderweireld appears to be working really well, Jose has got a massive stiffy for Dier for some reason and will probably break that partnership up. He's error prone as he's a defender with a midfielder's instincts. He's never side on so he can look at the ball and the player he's marking.

He might want to be the best defender in the league but he won't be. He's doing a Bendtner here. Confidence is one thing, delusion is another. He's not even the best defender in the club.

Am delighted also

Dier's aim should now be Euro 2021 with the lack of depth in that department. There is a place along side Maguire up for grabs.

Wonder how much he's on.

Where does the sixpence come from? That's way above his pay grade

Hopefully continues to look decent at CB. Him and Toby starting CBs next season.

Great news. Our second best CB after Toby so this gives us time to develop him further and if that doesn’t work retains value in him to get a decent fee to sell.

Win win

Hmmm. Lets see how Joe does next season. Rumours are Liverpool are after a new CB?

Before his ban, Dier was looking far more assured playing at CB, and he seemed to have cut out the misplaced passes etc. Hopefully he can find some consistency long term and turn into a top level CB for us.

Dier reminds me of Dawson, he will run through brick walss for you but he ain't got it upstairs.

Why is everyone expecting him to develop? He's 26. If you apply Wenger's logic he's way past the cut off age (23) in terms of potential.

What you see now is what you get and as far as I'm concerned it's a distinctly average player. The only reason I wouldn't let him go is his versatility in that he can play in two positions but he's a squad player, no more. I'm amazed at the level of faith you guys all have in him. He's the master of the misplaced pass.

For a reason. If he's rarely played at centre back and he's 26, there's a reason for it. He's already made quite a few errors.

Can’t develop after 23? That’s the most ludicrous and quite frankly stupid thing I’ve ever heard
