if I'm going to pick one there's a few guys who have got to fit in.

I like the team above but there are a few i couldnt leave out.

clemence is OK but alisson will replace one day
nicol should be in imo.
Hanson and vvd as cbs.
left full is harder. I'd actually consider robertson just cos he's a mix of things.
I agree with barnes, souness gerrard. there's so many true greats but I cannot leave our barnes. love the guy.

forwards Dalglish rush suarez (suarez would be great as wide forward) again so many greats
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nicol was a LB
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He mostly played right back. Phil Neal played left back when they played, I believe.

Nah Neal was RB. Unless my memory is playing tricks.
Kennedy played LB

Neal was absolutely a left back. He won four European Cups playing there.

I'm noy sure thats right. Kennedy was left back in those finals. Neale was very much a RB.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's how I remember it and Nicol replaced Kennedy from about 1984/85.

Not one team with Biscan, for shame

Even though I'm not a Liverpool fan I think I've picked the best XI out of all of you...

Nicol replaced Neal at right back but Neal started off as left back. Beglin played right back with Neal.

Beglin played left back with Nicol right back*

nicol won poty as rb. be played lb in the 1992 Cup final as I recall.

absolutely brilliant player.

posted on 21/7/20

also whoever is saying Phil neal was a left full is wrong cos he won 4 European cups at right back.

and yes he started out replacing lawler at left full but he quickly played right full and won 8 titles and is the one guy who spanned the 70s and 80s fully from 74 to 85 which was a phenomenal time for lfc.

beglin was always a left full as well.

you are talking about two absolutely brilliant right backs there. people hark back to Rob Jones at my age but for me nicol could do it all.

Neal was definitely a right back.

He started as a left back. Believe me, I wrote lineups out by hand for a week

He may well have done, but I’m pretty sure my memories of him are as a right back. Also, I see Nicol as a left back, but I’m not confident on that. I think maybe he played all across the back line at various times??

One thing I’ve noticed, is that I’m talking of this generation of players like the older generations talk about the likes of Matthews, Stiles etc I’m officially getting old 😒

That’s why I’m surprised he was not mentioned in the list, he played nearly everywhere in his time at the club including midfield and I don’t think I ever saw him play a bad game. The ultimate utility player for my money.

(He’s now on the list)

I have him in at LB.I THINK he played there when he won the 1989 POTY?

posted on 22/7/20

Yeah I remember him playing there a lot.

Neal—-Hansen—-Lawrenson—-Nicol

It doesn’t get much better than that but there is Smith, Yeats and now Virgil who could easily be in that back four. Chris Lawler would be the other player I dithered over for RB. I think Lawro played a few games at LB also, he was blindingly quick in his prime.

Won’t be long before TAA would get a place at the rate he is improving.
