They only really have themselves to blame.
Keep hearing things like so and so should be winning trophies and deserves a better team but when you add all these individuals up then they should have been that team.
Good luck to Jan I wish him all the best with whatever he moves on to but there have been worse defenders in the past that have walked away with winners medals rather than runners up medals playing for Spurs.
Great player... wish him all the best. Feel a bit sorry for all those guys who were in their prime at Spurs (Toby, Jan, Hugo, Rose, Walker, Dembele, Eriksen, Kane, Son (& ESPECIALLY Poch).....Let down by ownership when we were only a couple of players short of really challenging & winning something

totally agree. The team bottled many opps. Great player for us and ironically most of our players have won leagues and cups. just not with Spurs.
Just watched his tribute by Spurs on Youtube. Gutted.

absolute nonsense... those players didn't have the mentality to get over the line... the only thing from stopping all of them winning league cups fa cups prem and CL was themselves....
CL final Liverpool there for the taking and NOT EVEN ONE of our so called big players showed up.
league when hunting down Leicester ffs
what about that FA CUP semi final v man u at wembley, when Poch panicked at HT and made ridiculous subs.... Mourinho had us in his pocket from then onwards...
shambolic that such a talented group of players / managers over the last 10 years haven't managed a single piece of silverware.
that said. Verts put in some stellar displays for us. especially our last season at the Lane... defence was amazing.
Seems a nice guy but should have been one of the main leaders in this side to get us over the egde in those semi finals and finals.. and he just didn't have it in him.
wish him well, super Jan. will always welcome him back to the Lane.
When it comes to achieving an objective even yesterday almost ended up being a classic example of messing up.

Absolutely agree Chronic, you cannot blame Levy for this set of players and the former manager always underperforming when it mattered.
Best of luck to Verts though, hopefully one day he may return maybe in a coaching capacity. I think he really did enjoy his time at Tottenham.

Yup only had to beat a team that had lost their last eight games, and Spurs had beaten eight times in a row, and they nearly ended up throwing it away second half.
Definitely a big mental problem at the club. Needs to be addressed.
Levy has made some errors along the way, and I'm not gonna have a go at Poch, but the players really do only have themselves to blame for being trophyless.
folded when it came to crunchtime every single time.
Question:
At their peak, where would you rank King, Alderweireld and Vertonghen?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aurier
Verts
King
Toby
Verts at his best was the best imo but only cause of the way he would tackle and also then run forward with the ball. However Toby and King, far more commanding, Ledley would be the best not for his injuries, Toby the more consistent of the 3 and transformed our defence in his debut season with us.
What a player he was for a while, top signing.
I'm facked off where letting him go, great player just had a poor season is all.
Stay Jan.

I love Jan. One of my favourite players, but the timing is right. He’s not the player he once was mate. Should of achieved so much more at this club though. Certainly not his fault, but should of had a trophy to his name.

Verts

Toby
Verts definitely in his peak probably our best ever Prem era defender along with the obvious Ledders. King is and will always be the greatest defender for Spurs in my era but he was so hampered by injuries so Jan tops it slightly I reckon. Toby in 3rd.
nobody can beat King in my eyes. My favourite spurs player
I liked all three of Toby, Verts and Ledley. All quality players at their best.
Why cannot Spurs bring through young players now like King when he first broke into the team as a youngster?
Yeh king was incredible. Played in mostly s** spurs teams but still won a trophy with us
Oh Ledley Ledley, he’s only got one knee 😁
He’s better than John Terry
