Perhaps Ozil dosent like football anymore, and instead of retiring wants to bank as much as he can for doing nowt.

I’m sure if many of you had jobs you hate, and were in a similar situation maybe you’d choose the dishonorable thing too!?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure all of us in his situation will take the money option. It's not as though he's a die hard Arsenal fan,he's a bloke that's been offered way above the wage he should be getting and has decided that's good enough to stay.

Who else given his circumstances would move home for less money and more work???
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyone with an ounce of pride or self-respect.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You must be every employers dream.

Do the same job for less money and more work and be willing to move home
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We're talking football salaries here and someone who already has tens of millions banked away.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And why would they chose to potentially move home to work harder for less money.

Answer that honestly then I'd try and take your point of view.At the moment he has to do minimal work for one of the highest pay packets in world football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything is already explained in this article... If you choose not to see it that's your choice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are assuming he loves playing football.I look at his time at Arsenal and assume he has no love of the game and is only in it for the money.

If I am right he will see his contract out, tell me what you think he will do?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's the pointit's not what anyone should do but it's what Ozil is going to do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Loads of players have done what Ozil is doing, not many are picking up the wage he is though.

Name me one incentive he has to make him leave if he has no love of the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
An end to the relentless media attention and this situation which must be on some level embarrassing for someone with his obvious ego.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And yet every month a million plus just rolls in for doing next to nothing.

No matter how big an ego you believe he has (I don't buy that at all) a growing bank balance for doing next to nothing easily compensates for it

I'm not above a good conspiracy theory.

I've seen clips of the infamous Chinese football commentary that completely ignores Ozil's presence on the pitch.

I heard it got so bad at one point that Arsenal Chinese match broadcasts started getting shuffled around to less glamourous outlets.

Özil posted his China tweet just before Christmas. Around the time Arteta got hired. And to the manager's credit, he did persist with Özil in his lineups for more than 2 months into his tenure.

Fast forward to today, and Arteta can't even mention Özil's name on camera. Every question from the media about the player is met by a terse "I have no comment about that".

Seems like this particular episode has nothing to do with football and everything to do with financial/corporate pressure from either the PL/TV bosses or the lucrative Chinese market.

Like all conspiracy theories, mine does have a flaw. I have to say I was quite surprised to see Özil at the far end of a group photo during our kit launch a few days ago.

You're too money-centric which is acceptable for a regular bloke but shouldn't be for a Premier League footballer and someone who already has a huge estate.

Ozil is used to having a lot of money so his thought process should not be like yours, there should be other considerations made, like actually kicking a ball and not looking like a moody spoilt brat to the World for another year.

Why...again why should he disrupt his family to move to another part of the World for less money and more work.

He can simply do fook all pick up a huge wage, see out his contract and if he wants move elsewhere on a free where the only factor is wages.

He is a very lucky human being to be in such a priviledged position and I applaud him.Not his fault he was given the contract he now has.

I get it totally, you are the one who doesn't get it.

Why on earth would you move house and job to earn less money for more work???

Give your head a wobble and have a good think about it.

Have you personally taken a pay cut to do the same job,but also to work harder and at the same time uproot your family.

Have a good think about it

Still doesn't explain Arteta's Soviet-era "No comment" replies every time someone asks him about his highest paid player.

As already explained by myself and others, money is no object here, he has plenty to sustain an incredible quality of life whereever he goes.

How did he get to the stage where he is earning £350,000 a week.

Could it be he could have moved away from Arsenal to a club that he could win more trophies but he decided to go down the money route. You tell me,you seem to be the expert in how people towards the end of their career would chose less money and more work.

You don't seem to have a grasp on how humans actually think

I don't know that many rich people, but the one's I do know won't even consider for one second to earn less money to do the same job, never mind doing more work and moving their family in the process.

You have to be some sort of imbecile to even consider it,would you consider doing this?

Remarkable, just remarkable. We all get that you wouldn't do it personally, christ almighty but a lot of top sporting professionals would indeed change trajectory, even if it meant a wage reduction in order to actually play the sport they love snd not just be a voyeur for another season yes, particularly when there's going to be virtually no change to quality of life, rich people you know sre likely not Premier League's highest earners rich.

You assume he loves the sport.Everything I've seen about him and even his demeanor when playing suggests otherwise.

Let's say he has no love of the sport,if this is the case why would he leave?

I don't assume that at all, I'm aware that this is likely the case. However deep down unless he has absolutely no morals or self-respect he can't feel good about hampering the club for such extortionate money when he's providing absolutely nothing in return.

posted on 31/7/20

With a contract of that size comes a level of verbal or unwritten understanding between the player and club, a responsibility to demonstrate professionalism and performances and he has not met that at all since signing it.

comment by 8bit (U2653)

posted on 31/7/20

why should he feel bad about hampering the club? All he's doing is respecting his contract. The club made the mistake and should pay him off if they want him to leave.

posted on 31/7/20

Because with any contract agreement both parties share some level of responsibility, as I said Ozil has not met the responsibilities that came with earning £350,000/week. Instead of top performances we got sulky moody man.

posted on 31/7/20

I have a lot of personal loathing for Ozil as a player, but the anger over his situation can only be channeled at the buffoons who made him one of the highest paid players in the world. I might even have understood if you offered Alexis such a contract and he suddenly flopped, but Ozil was never a world beater in this club. I always found it hilarious when people called us the best-run club under Gazidis and Wenger. Those clowns ran this club into the ground before leaving and we won't be recovering anytime soon from the damage they caused.

posted on 31/7/20

Ozil deserved his contract.

The reality is, at that time he was our franchise player and we couldn't lose him. For example, if we'd lost Ozil you really think Auba would have signed a few weeks later?

The problem is that Wenger destroyed the team and the team's mentality. Plus the recruitment hasn't been good. So we've been poor and Ozil lost interest (fair enough given the criticism he got constantly for no reason).

This all boils down to Wenger, and to a lesser extent Gazidis and Kroenke.
