A typical mercenary if I have ever seen one. Out for the money and would kiss any badge for the right money

Had bags of talent too but age is getting to him. Lacks motivation and lost pace.

Good on him for getting a 3 years deal. Hard to get one after a certain age.

Going to retire at Arsenal, like Ozil did

Aw bless your lack of football knowledge knows no bounds. A mercenary who stayed at the same club for 7 years? Yep he may well retire at Arsenal - so what?

Mercenary who stayed in the same place for 7 years and is choosing to stay in London as his family is settled there...right okay

If you paid well anyone, they;ll stay put and that's the only reason he is staying. Do you even know his history prior to Chelsea?

That's fine

Arsenal has become a retirement club

so did he stay put or is he a mercenary? Barcelona were in for him many times and he stayed.
Don't really understand people who cry about footballers trying to earn the most they can during a short career either.

Your comment was a poor one and not needed.

200K+ a week for a player well past his best.... Arsenal never learn

Paying him & Ozil close to 600K a week combined for the next couple of years.... Genius

Wrong again. Arsenal are 2nd only to Man U as the club with the youngest average age in the Prem.

What a mess you are

Can't argue with your summary Nick, sad to see him go but all things come to an end. Don't understand why some seemed desperate to want the club to increase the offered contract length.

Yeah baffles me that, aswell as people who were so anti willian. I think its the right time for all involved. With pulisic, cho, ziyech and werner the future is bright

Yeah club did the right thing. One year extension would've been fine, he'd earned it. Two year extension is pushing it. Three year contract would've been stupid, repeating foolish mistakes we made 10 years ago (the reason we have the 30+ rule in the first place).

Good on him, got his deal. The losers in this equation are Arsenal, half way through that contract they'll regret it/will be hoping an American or Middle Eastern club bails them out of it.

A mercenary who has been at 3 clubs in 13 years (one of them was because they transfer listed their whole team the season he joined) , if hes a mercenary then what would you label Robbie Keane?

You know the player who left you lot to play for the club he supported as a child, then got the boot after 6 months and went back to Spurs who made him captain . He had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus....

You are the biggest pleb on this website, and if you are wondering who i am, i was there the day you said one of your greatest players was dead

I'm going to hate seeing him a red shirt but his career's come to a natural end with us.

He could have been a legend with us if he could have been more consistent but in truth he's only had, what I'd consider, two good seasons here.

I think he's still something to offer but at 32 I doubt a three year contract was wise for us. The club tried to compromise with a Two year contract, it's a shame he couldn't do the same.

I wish him a prosperous life but silverless career for the next few years.

Thanks for the memories and great song Willy!

I think he had probably 5 good seasons with us.

A good player.
Often very good
Rarely outstanding

He is brilliant helping teams transition and driving his team up the pitch, but his final pass and especially his finishing was never good enough.

His goals per game ration says it all...

I predict Arsenal will get one good season our of him

A pretty good appraisal Biggish.

Five good seasons with two very good ones and frustrating when he arrives around the opposition box most of the time.
