I think all sensible spurs fans appreciate Poch's work. He elevated us into a genuinely big club.
We probably should have won a cup but the domestic cups have not been something that spurs have cared about under ENIC.
I'm sure if he was backed we could have done something really special.
All manager's need quality player's. It's no coincidence liverpool kicked on when they got VVD, Allison and Fabinho. However good a manager he is liverpool would not have won the league with karius, lovren and co.
You look at our CL final team and it consisted of Trippier, Rose, Winks and Sissoko. These are mid table footballers who has no right to have got that far. Poch worked miracles for us and I'm sure will win things when he moves to a European giant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We didnt spend that much compared to Man City, Man United and Chelsea.
We have spend wisely which is a testament of the quality of manager we have.
You guys have spend 112m in 2017/2018 and 87m in 2019/2020.
That is a close 200m on dross and if you have strengthen intelligently you could have won a trophy.
Our forward line cost a total of 90m and that is 1 Maguire or Pogba.
Our defence and goalkeeper is a total of 140m which has been made possible by the Coutinho money.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We bought really well in 19/20
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No you didn’t. You bought Clarke, Sessengon, Lo Celso and Ndombele and they’ve not had much impact. Failed to address the major weaknesses in the squad. Hence why your season went to shiiiiiit.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a quite good window on paper. Not great because we didn't get another RB, and missed out on Dybala. Ndombele monumentally flopping did not help our season at all.
Don’t really get all this Poch love in, yes Spurs progressed really well under his management from our previous doldrums, however we didn’t win a trophy, he made bad team choices for the CL Final and couldn’t get the players to play at their full potential in the final against a poor LFC performance. He lost the plot in his last year, our results were pretty shocking and the CL VAR run helped paper over v poor league form. I really liked him as our manager, I really did, I liked the way he truthfully spoke to the fans and the press. I don’t like José one bit, but I still can’t understand the infatuation with one of our previous mangers and where will he manage next etc. He moved on, so should the fans.
I don’t think Lo Celso has been that impressive. Especially as he hasn’t been able to replace Eriksen’s creativity. Whether those two are good youngsters or not they’ve had no impact at the club. And it was a lot of money for no immediate return.
I don’t agree that as individuals they were all good business. But ultimately a transfer window is judged by the impact on the team and whether you’ve addressed the weaknesses in the side. And Spurs fell short there. Which is why I don’t think you bought really well.
We left too much to do in one window. Not signing a RB, a ball winning midfielder and another striker though proved costly. Nothing against Clarke but its just these deals for the future we make where we have gapping squad holes which is the frustration.
Sessegnon and Ndombele were Poch signings and you could see him easing both in. I think he saw ndombele more of a ball winner than he actually is and thought Sessegnon would be more ready to progress into a really good LB.
The Dybala signing really would have been a real squad booster and statement signing, shame about that one. Not signing a RB at all in all those windows we did nothing and then last summer is just inexcusable. Really we should have already had a defensive midfielder and RB from prior windows and the players we brought in then are seen as a lot better as really talented guys for the future.
I really like the GLC and Ndombele signings and them as players, however we didn't replace eriksens creativity which arises yet another problem area, whilst also not addressing the overplaying of kane issue and overreliance on Son to cover him.

Klopp never got the best out of his team in the final either but he had a better squad and he didn't have clumsy Sissoko handing the initiative over in the first minute.

yeah i am a GLC fan but this is a fait point. The issue for spurs for a while now is not addressing the key gaps in the squad and signing good players that are not the type that are absolutely needed in the team.
Last summer a DM, AM, RB and striker were all neglected and thus our problems.
"I don’t agree that as individuals they were all good business. But ultimately a transfer window is judged by the impact on the team and whether you’ve addressed the weaknesses in the side. And Spurs fell short there. Which is why I don’t think you bought really well."
Fair, at the time we all knew that not signing a RB was a bit of a joke but we were all too excited about the other signings to complain too much
I was under a false illusion Aurier would do OK and prove people wrong in his first season as number 1 RB, but in fact proved all fears to come to light. Also the hope for KWP I guess...
Phenom and Chris.
I think you needed a cb as well. Maybe in the future the transfer window will be judged better, as the players are young with potential. But I think that’s one of the problems with your transfer policy, and you were in a position where the now is more important than the future. And that’s the problem, as it’s cost Poch his job and you’ve been lumbered with Mourinho.

Exactly this, how anybody can have constant digs at Poch when you look at our trophy haul as a club in the last 20 years.
I also agreed that Poch probably had to be sacked but the I cant believe the disrespect he gets by some of our fans.

Well said!
My only question, if you were fully aware that he did brilliantly for us (the best of your 38 years) why were you calling for his sacking? Just curious.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good question
Like many, I felt that the CL run had papered over the cracks. No away win in the league for nearly year, off the back of a 3-0 loss against Brighton and a 7-2 home mauling by Bayern Munich. The football had regressed at such a sharp descent, I thought there is something seriously wrong. Poch began speaking in riddles, one week saying he wants out, the next committing himself to the club.
I still believe it was the right decision, but have since come to the conclusion that the guy just needed a break from football.
I would take him back in a heartbeat now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Logical argument. Yeah, we did dip and I guess it did have the feel of a soured marriage towards the end but I think he deserved time to turn it around, he earned it. That said, even if he hadn't been sacked, he'd have jumped by now so it would never have been a long term stay. What annoys me now is the narrative that's gaining traction about him not doing enough with the squad we had. The reason our team looked world class at times was precisely because of him. He had them playing above their capabilities and without any backing from the board, the belief in the 'project' collapsed, but it wasn't Poch's fault. Blame lies further up for me.

Poch should have won a trophy with a peak Ali Kane Ericsson Alderweld lloris Dembele Walker Rose etc You had a great team and little excuse other than you're Spurs. He's massively overrated by you guys. He's not a bad manager but he's not special in any way and was rightly fired for relegation form
This myth that if you spent 200m etc you would have won the league and CL because Liverpool did is hilarious. It's not that simple
You still have the opportunity, sell Kane like we sold Cout then invest back into the squad. Sell Ali too he's totally lost it. Your demise has been quite rapid
Oh yeah you also have a past it Mourinho in charge
