I'd have to have AB in that ODI team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Always went missing in the big tournament games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Possibly. SA always have but Amla is in!
.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah won't have Amla either. Probably looking at Rohit

ODI XI
1) Warner
2) Hashim Amla
3) Kohli
4) Steve Smith
5) Babar Azam
6) Dhoni
7) Stokes
8) Ashwin
9) Brett Lee
10) Starc
11) Muhammad Amir
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think I'd have Steve Smith in this team. AB or Root would probably be my pick although if you want someone for big matches then maybe Williamson.
Rohut record against big team outside Asia is not impressive whereas Amla produced outstanding perofrmances under all conditions. Will replace Smith with AB

I don't really care what player does in a bilateral one day series. One day cricket has 2 great tournaments which are the world cup and champions trophy. In both of these Amla and AB bottle it.
Even Kohli to an extent bottles it when it comes to knock out games. Always out cheaply.
Someone like Morgan never gets a mention but i'd have him in my team over Amla and AB.
ODI Team of the 21st Century
Hayden
Gayle
Kohli
KP
De Villiers
Stokes
Dhoni
Starc
Boult
Muralitharan
Bumrah
Maybe if Amir had not been banned, he would've made it, but 5 years is a long time
Agreed, Amir has not even got to 100 wicket haul to warrant selection in best XI POST 2000.Boult , Malinga are stronger contendors
Tendulkar, Lara, Gilchrist, Inzamam, Wasim, Waqar, Warne, McGrath etc. were all playing in the 21st Century but I would put them in a 90s ODI team
3 W's played very little to warrant selection. Mcgrath is strong candidate for picking loads of wickets in 2003 and 2007 world cup, he became the highest wicket taker in world cups as well

Malinga is a great shout, forgot about him
Actually, I have to put Ponting in there, yes he was there in the 90s, but probably was at his best in the early 2000s.
Sorry KP has been removed. Ponting is in.
My one day:
1 Hayden
2 Rohit
3 Ponting
4 Kohli
5 Morgan
6 Stokes
7 Dhoni
8 Starc
9 Ajmal
10 Malinga
11 McGrath

McGrath won 2 world cups in the 00s
McGrath won 2 World Cups yes, but the teams he was facing (especially in 2007), they were terrible
I always felt that the 1999 win was worth much more than 2007 when teams were totally intimidated by Australia
To be fair, the 2003 World Cup was impressive, so maybe he can sneak in ahead of Bumrah but I didn' want too many players from one team.
Kash, you were talking about big games, but Rohit has failed in pretty much every big game I can remember
2013 CT Final
2015 WC Semi - 34 off 48 chasing 330 is not good enough
2017 CT Final
2019 WC Semi

You are right my logic is incorrect there. He does have 3 200 scores which is unreal but they were in very small India grounds. I'd probably go Gayle then or someone like Roy
Roy is a good shout
Trescothik won many games for England too.
Wasn't McGrath injured in the 2003 world cup? I remember thinking at that time Australia may struggle without Warne as he was banned for failing a drugs test and McGrath was injured but they still ended up winning every single game that year.
Mcgrath was third highest wicket taker in 2003 behind Vaas and Tait or lee. He has been easily the best bowler in world cups so not picking him is bad selection
Just checked and McGrath was in the 2003 world cup squad, no idea why I thought he was injured
Warne was banned for the 2003 tournament
McGrath was great and everything and had a great presence, but his bowling never excited me like a Wasim or a Marshall or Donald. I actually prefer to watch Anderson too.
He feats are undeniable, but still, that's just how I feel

I think Gillespie got injured mid-tournament. They bowled out India for 125 in the group game with Gillespie, but then he didn't play in the latter stages and Warne was banned, however they still won every match.
Gillespie was amazing in that match.
