how can he just cancel his contract, since when has that been a thing?
Can see him joining Liverpool. He’s always said he wanted to try route one footy for a while.
everybody should do it as its so easy
how can he just cancel his contract, since when has that been a thing?
——————————-
Apparently he had a clause in his contract allowing him to terminate his contact. However Barça are claiming that ran out in June. This could get, erm, Messi
apparently he had the right to ask for his contract to be terminated before june 10th, but didn't do so. has asked for it now, barca are refusing and saying his buyout clause is €700m, i guess messi's argument will be that june 10th was supposed to be the end of the season, that was delayed due to covid, so the clause should be valid for longer.
may be a simple negotiating tactic, would be more fun if it does go to court.
guess likeliest destinations are city and PSG, with the big italian clubs (with their lower tax rates) an outside bet.
In the Prem I can only see him go to City.
France actually make the rich pay their taxes. Italy it is.

you could afford him couldnt you now sanchez is off the wage bill and you aren't getting sancho?
We’d win the CL with Messi. Adidas will pay for the deal.

Hes reported as saying he'll only leave for a club ready to challenge. He's only talking about the CL, so not united.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Atletico maybe?
i guess this narrows down the list of potential suitors a little:
This is Messi's wage package at Barcelona according to Football Leaks: 60.395.769 euro basic yearly wages (£988.000 a week), £9.100.000 per year on image rights, £13.000.000 a year on possible bonuses plus signing on & loyalty fee (£120.000.000 over 5 years).
From BBC...
“ The Argentina international, 33, sent a fax on Tuesday saying he wanted to exercise a clause in his contract that allows him to leave immediately”
I mean who the F sends a fax?!
Surely people in Spain know better than most that you don’t seal a transfer to a new club when you use fax

Mad isn’t it. There’s no way he could change jobs and earn less money, he’d be out on the streets within weeks!

turns out that ed's sanchez contract was just him warming up for this moment.
I'm not sure what it is Messi is after here.
He'll go down as one of the, if not, the greatest footballer of all time. His entire DNA is entrenched in Barcelona's history, with his name on every accolade.
At 33, how many seasons does he have in him? Two, maybe pushing three? Why would you spend the remaining time of your career, moving to a foreign country, having to adapt your play, learn a new language, unsettle your family to a country they will struggle to assimilate too, so you have a 'better' chance at winning meaningless trophies?
The only teams I see him moving to is Liverpool, Man City, Bayern Munich or a very unlikely Juventus. These are the clubs where 'instant' success is the highest.

Apparently he bought the fax machine 2nd hand from United.
And he originally sent the fax on 10th June when the 'free transfer clause' was still active...
Too small and weak for the prem unless he signs for united in which case he's the GOAT. I have never seen him play on a wet windy night in Stoke.
Haven’t read the article or comments but would just like to say, welcome to Manchester, Lionel.
We’re excited to have you - looking forward to celebrating that league trophy.

He's worth it
He either genuinely wants to get away from the Barca shiiiiiitshow. Or he’s trying to force the president out.
I really want the latter to happen. Player power level 100.
we have a deal that is heavly reliant on shirt sales, could be the first ever time 'the shirt sales will pay for the transfer' would even be close to being true
