Really hope so. I mean, I’ve only seen him once but he looked a real talent.
I know his a defender, not sure if it's Central or full back.
He would be my no.1 defensive signing, the kids unbelievably good for his age.
I don't think it will happen though, all the reports are that he will be there for another season
Hope this is true, he looks the real deal!
He's just after signing a new contract, can't see it happening sadly
Would be great if true but Espn is a poor source.
Definitely seems to be a consistent profile in the CBs we’re being linked with: young, quick, physically-commanding, technically proficient with the ball at their feet.
Would look like the club is after another player in Maguire’s mould (apart from the quick bit, obviously ).
Curiously enough - see the link I posted on the VDB article - this is a player we had all but signed (for the princely sum of £1m) under LVG:
https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/556080/Man-Utd-Dayot-Upamecano-Transfer-News
LVG's time in charge would sure be viewed a lot more favourably if we'd signed him and Van de Beek for £10m the pair.
Is Matth really Matt Judge in disguise?
Keep the transfer stories coming
I've seen him make quite a few mistakes though what young defender doesn't. I've always found CB to be the most difficult position to judge, especially when it comes to young CBs and them transitioning to different leagues.
If we are to bring in a CB, Upamecano is certainly the type of player I'd like for that position because he's physically superior, quicker and better on the ball, both at distributing and carrying than any of our other CBs.
I do think his French teammate at Leipzig Konate is arguably the better defender mind. He's also pretty good on the ball but maybe not as good as Upamecano.

He's a great talent imo. Strong, athletic and quite fast, he's be a great signing for United, Chelsea, City or Arsenal. Problem is always going to be price. There are very few top defenders around at this time, hence 50 million for Chilwell and 80m for Maguire - neither of whom are top top players.

If we do go for a young CB, it signals somewhat that Ole has lost faith in Tuanzebe's fitness record, because in terms of player profile and attributes, it would seem he and Upamecano are quite similar.
It was also suggested on this forum by someone that Ole seems to be targeting players with good fitness records. When you look at Maguire, AWB, VDB & Bruno, you'd have to say that there's some legs in that suggestion (pun fully intended, of course). So I can see it being quite likely that Ole is losing patience. For me it's really disappointing because I think Tuanzebe is one of our best young academy graduates. But if he's never available then the club do need to move on in the market.
The counter argument might be that Ole as shown patience with TFM & Bailly, but I don't think Ole ever had them earmarked as first 11 players, whereas I think with Tuanzebe he very much did.

They're not even close.
For what it would probably cost to sign Upamecano, I'd still be a lot happier with the fee paid for him than I was with the fee we paid for Maguire who I still don't think was worth it.

Upamecano is stronger in the air than Tuanzebe, but otherwise I'd say their style and attributes are fairly similar.
Tuanzebe is somewhere in between Lindelof and Upamecano. Like Lindelof, he's excellent 1v1 and positionally, quick, composed and progressive.
Tuanzebe's strength and the way he uses his body make him a brighter prospect than Lindelof for me. Upamecano looks like he has some of all of that as well as the aerial dominance.
You seen much of Badiashile, TRS? Looks like he could be another one of the same sort of ilk.
Funny watching him ping diagonals like he thinks he's Pirlo or Scholes
I think that lad is only 19 years old too.
BK
Tuanzebe is quite similar in a lot of ways to Upamecano but the latter is better on the ball and in the air which has always been a slight weakness of Tuanzebe's.
I think time is running out for him however I think he'll be afforded more patience and given another chance if he can get back to full fitness.
IF he can manage to return at an early enough stage this season and keep himself fit I still think he could force his way in front of Lindelof and Bailly.
If we could get Tuanzebe fit then we wouldn't need to waste money on a CB. Shame

Watched him for the first time against Reims the previous Sunday so I've barely got anything to go on really, only from what I've read.
While he'd cost less than Upamecano I think he'd be a much bigger gamble.

Honestly feel the same about Bailly. Get him fit and a run of games and I reckon he’d be good for us. Needs to cut out the moments of madness mind you

I’m not remotely convinced that Bailly is good enough on the ball to be able to play out from the back like Ole wants us to.
