They need to rebuild, he’s what, 30? Not a good long term buy. And I don’t think he really suits them.
And He’d be better staying put.
Liverpool board are tasking the pash if they don’t get Thiago. 30m for one of the best midfielders around, get it paid and move on. The board need to start acting like a big club
Hed be a massive miss if he goes. Its all fair and well saying we will get thiago in instead but as good as he is, there are things wijnaldum brings to the table the he wont. His workrate is incredible and the covering work he does to allow the full backs to bomb on is something we wont get from thiago.
I hope he stays however its getting to that stage now where it looks a lost cause.
Thiago would depend on Wijnaldum going I'd say. We've got Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner, Keita and Jones for three spots. Would be mad to bring another in without letting one go, especially with our wage bill. We've also still got Grujic on the books who looks a good player to me.

In what way have the board not been acting like a big club? We've went from midtable to PL and CL winners with one of the biggest wage bills in the world. There's no point paying big money on a transfer fee and wages when you're already stocked in the position. Acting like a big club would mean not jumping in and buying for the position until we move a player on. This stragegy has worked thus far, why would they change it?
I think he's a good player but it just shows Barça's problem. Buying older players they can get on the cheap. I'm pretty upset with the Barça board, we lost direction as a club a few years back. Wijnaldum is a good player but not what we need at present.

Why would you buy a world class midfielder for 30m? He’s not going to wait until Liverpool are ready. You’ve hardly spent anything and that’s the area you need to strengthen most given Milner’s age and Keita not performing as well as expected.
I get what you are saying but improving from a position of strength is what big clubs do

Thiago works incredibly hard, was no.10 for spain last night further forward n still the one getting last ditch tackles on Sane and co.
Ginis been a good servant for us and is always solid but often doesnt do enough. I wouldnt mind if we kept him a year and lost for free providing we still get thiago. Thiagos a no brainer.

One of the six numbnuts. Do you know any other clubs with seven first team central midfielders? There's a reason for that, especially with our wage bill.
Oh and I forgot about Ox. So we already have seven. Unless we lose one we won't buy one. It's as simple as that. We need to strengthen the back up positions for the front three before midfield and when we do buy in midfielder I'm hoping for a big transfer for a younger player. That's the position we're in now, a position of strength. Lose one, buy a big replacement. Fergie did this with United for years which is why they stayed on top so long. We have no need to take risks.

I would like to have a look at Wilson in this team but it looks like that isn't gonna happen. I'd prefer to send Elliott out on loan to get a consistent run of games.
Why don’t Barcelona just sign Thiago
Barca are on a clear decline and won’t compete at the top for many years to come. People said the same about Bayern last season...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think Koeman wants a fighter in his midfield, one he trusts. Look at their last couple of CL knockouts, they could have done with some fight in midfield.
When Neymar left they bought two players, in Dembele and Coutinho and that should have set them up for years but Dembele got injured and has since struggled for form and they tried to use Coutinho in that Neymar role which didn't work and of course subsequently loaned him out. The guts of £300m wasted. It will take some time to make that right, especially considering many of their big players and in their 30s.
They'll get there though as quite simply, they can still attract the best but there needs to be a transition period as big changes have to come, which needs to begin when the new president begins. Hopefully by then the top four, or at least three, with City, Chelsea and Liverpool, begin to dominate and the big players want to stay in the PL. Hasn't been that way in decades but it's long overdue.
Gini is underrated.
I'm a big fan of what he brings to the team. Resolute work ethic, combined with great technical ability. He's strong on the ball and is able to keep possession in tight area's. Thiago is more creative and would offer us something different, but I would rather keep Gini and sign Thiago, the problem is who would make way.
Milner isn't getting any younger, but is it incredibly versatile. I see him now as the weakest of our main midfielder, but he also also can cover the two fullback positions and has a big influence in the dressing room.
The Ox is also versatile and covers the wide area's in Mane and Salah's absense. He is however injury prone and we have a lack of options for the WF positions. I didn't think he had a good season and needs to do better imo.
Fab and Hendo aren't an option.
Keita has had a series of niggling injuries and the jury is still out tbh, but he on occasion does impress and he obviously possesses good ability.
It's a bit of an conundrum. Thiago is a player that can make us better, but as others have said, I can see one going to make room.

Acting like a big club would mean not jumping in and buying for the position until we move a player on. This stragegy has worked thus far, why would they change it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would you buy a world class midfielder for 30m? He’s not going to wait until Liverpool are ready. You’ve hardly spent anything and that’s the area you need to strengthen most given Milner’s age and Keita not performing as well as expected.
I get what you are saying but improving from a position of strength is what big clubs do
---------------------
I completely agree the area we're most stocked in is the area we need to strengthen the most because Keita, Henderson and Ox (played there) are injury prone, Milner is getting old and gets injured too, Jones is inexperienced and most importantly we lack creativity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If that's the case then we need to sell one.

Already we did. Released Lallana and haven't replaced him. He was not a starter but made some contribution. Thiago to take Wijnaldum starting place and Wijnaldum taking Lallana's. The club is also looking to sell Grujic, Wilson. Jones not yet ready

We have no need to take risks.

its still early doors, grujic shaqiri wilson prob all have interest, things will develop. lot of clubs gonna panic buy at the end i imagine too when things dont start well n they realise they need strengthening.
