Big spenders so far

I’m more nervous about our targets - seemingly no desire to bring in a defensive midfielder or a centre half.

But I’d rather the current situation than panic buying and I’d be surprised if we don’t see at least one new face.

Take Chelsea out and no one has done much... City have made a couple of signings, liverpool one.. Villa two? Everton two?

Iv no idea what positions we are targeting.

When did we sign Van Beek?

It's almost like you have been counting down the days to bring back some negativity

Manutd outspent all three in the last two seasons. Just catching up and don't forget City lost David Silva who will be difficult to replace.

Manutd still have a better squad on paper who have played together for atleast a year or two and will only get better.

Chelsea with all our arrivals are yet to get a couple of preseason games together.

Everton have done good business. So have Arsenal.

We still need a quality CB and a CF / forward.

and if the window ends like that, with us making only 1 signing... I'd be gutted after such effort to get top 3.

But it's wise not to cry in the mean time.

Crying over football at any time is silly.

Unless we can shift Fred, Matic or Pereira, I don't see how we can bring another CM in.

Similar at CB, we have Jones, Smalling and Bailly to shift.

Window doesn't end for another month, relax.

I really dont get the clamour for a DM considering we have Matic, Fred, McTominay capable of playing that role plus who is happy putting a foot in.

posted on 9/9/20

For me the bigger problem is we play again in less than 2 weeks and aren’t likely to have any further signings integrated into the squad until 3 or 4 games in, which doesn’t help.

There isn’t much “concrete” news around about targets in the positions we really need. Sancho talk has gone quiet too. Maybe it’s a good thing.

To be honest I’m just fed up of the club spending a week banging on about VDB and showing old clips every day, who made their debut 59 years ago etc. With no sign of further arrivals!

Should really stop refreshing Twitter every 5 minutes

Matic yes
fred and mct cannot play dm. The are destroyers without the tactical awarenes of a dm

I doubt very much Ed and Judge are sitting there waiting for Dortmund to call and offer them Sancho for £80m.

I think McTominay has enough of a footballing brain to be able to learn that role, he seems grounded and hard working.

Fred will never have the awareness at DM, he gives away silly fouls, dives in, leaves runners and space. He's an okay all rounder to have but I put him below Matic and McTominay for the DM role, now he has Beek ahead of him for the 2nd midfielder too.

I think that McT will grow into that role myself.

And are any of those good enough right now?

Matic is getting slower by the day, Fred is limited and McT needs time - plus isn't actually a DM.

Worth remembering that we beat or drew with all our rivals mainly playing Fred and Mct... I feel their stock has dropped massively with the fans since Bruno arrived, but they showed real promise as a pairing. Hopefully one of the two take the bull by the horns and seal a place as DM, because Matic sure as hell can;t play 50+ games.

CB, FB, DM are positions we're still well stocked with players not good enough.

That kind of worked because their roles were limited though. If we're to progress as a team it can't be with midfielders whose remit is to hold position and keep it simple. Although you do need that at times, like the big games where we gave us possession.

The pairing also cost us points when we couldn't break down opposition.

The system would likely still be the same though, we will just have Pogba/Beekers in next to one of them, which should add more creativity (and Bruno ahead, of course).

If a quality DM or Carrick type could be signed, i'd love it... But I won't be overly concerned if we don't sign a another CM this summer.

Another forward is far more pressing, imho.

No need to panic. People were panicking two weeks ago and we got Van de Beek.

I would not be shocked if we still end up 2nd biggest spenders after Chelsea in this window.

Don’t think the Sancho deal is dead in the water by any means.

You can't have been impressed with his recent Enland performances? I thought he was woeful. A player supposedly worth £100m you'd think we'd see a little bit of sparkle from him.
