You loaning him back for a few seasons?

It is gutting, but you have to respect Emi's desire to be undisputed #1 at a club.

As said, we have to judge the transfer window at the end - and we are desperate for quality in midfield.

He's a good goalkeeper and deserves to be no. 1 at a Premier League club.

Weird to get £20m for him after selling the much higher profile Fabianski and Ospina for absolute peanuts.

Not sure what to think about the deal. He's been in better form than Leno this year, but we've not seen enough of him to definitively declare him better than Leno. But I certainly have a lot of doubts about Leno's ability to command the backline. His decision-making on crosses is just not good enough for what the club demands.

Thought we could have at least squeezed another 5Mil from Villa.

Don’t really want him to go, but he has 2 years left and if he’s not number 1 he won’t sign and his value goes down, or if he does play for us and doesn’t perform as well over a season we might not get as much. So it’s not a terrible idea to sell him now, especially as we do have a good keeper in Leno. Hopefully we use the money on the midfield

Emi is more sellable than Leno, less wages.

Not sure if it is a question of "form" but rather a matter of "skill". Leno is an absolute train-wreck on corners or on most plays in the penalty box. Better to have traded Leno for same amount and taken the financial embarrassment!

Pretty sure Leno is on far bigger wages than Martinez. And had injury problems recently. And a run of mediocre form. He's not a particularly attractive prospect for any club.

What’s going to be annoying now with some of our stupid fans is they’re going to be baying for Leno to make a mistake so they can say we should have kept Martinez

Yeah, already a few comments flying about on here. Same people were calling Leno the best keeper in the league 3 months ago.

It’s actually £16 million plus add-ons.
Hope we don’t go and spend on that money on that Brentford goalie, who I don’t rate.
Surely we can find a decent goalie in France or Spain for £5 million to take over the number 2 role. The rest of the money (if it is all paid upfront) should go to sorting our midfield.

It will all go to Aubameyang's signing on bonus.

Yeah very annoying. Some of our fans have seemingly decided Leno is the new Almunia for some reason Since his injury. Martinez has been undoubtedly excellent this season, but considering how few months ago he’d be worth 2m and that he has 2 years left, it’s not a crazy decision to cash in and it’s sort of thing a lot of fans have been calling for.

I really like Martinez but if we can use that fee to improve rest of the team, it makes sense to sell him, especially as we already have a great keeper in Leno

Good decision. If we don't win silverware it's not because we sold Martinez. We need to invest more in our spine, though in fairness we have a squad good enough for silverware and top 4.

Leno is a fine keeper, I like him, but he doesn't command his box the way Martinez does, maybe Leno can improve on that, who knows, but that's the reason I give Martinez the clear edge.

Leno is a good keeper. However, if he continues to flap at high balls and continue to make errors with free kicks and corners then he will be under pressure from the fans

If Emi is going for £16m+ I reckon we could have got £25m+ for Leno as the better known name. Emi is on £20k a week and Villa apparently offering £60k a week. Leno is on £100k a week.

I prefer Emi as a keeper as he is so dominant in the area. Leno is the better shot stopper compared to Emi being the better chance stopper.

For me its makes far better sense to sell Leno.both for what it means for the team and financially.

Who are we getting £25m+ off of for Leno???

Allow Partey, do everything we can to get Coutinho.
