TAA wasn't any better. Hopefully this will be a big wake up call to all the defenders.
Felt a bit sorry for Gomez as VVD was leaving him horribly exposed on so many occasions.
TAA was horrible, truly awful, can tell he’s struggling for fitness.

Hi neo
A few weeks of training and the team shape should be sharper, agree GB in trent felt he was out of position too often today.
Teams are going to target the space behind trent or whomever plays, arsenal and Leeds both scored from a cross field ball in behind the right back.
Its a weakness we have to live with I guess with how much having trent high brings to the team but need to be sharper reacting to balls into that space.

Its tough for Trent at times because he gets no real help from salah and is also expected to be a key player in the final third so there is always an emphasis on him to go forward and that'll leave him out of position. He didn't get as much help from keita or wij either.
That said, positionally he wasn't good today but Gomez is the one that worries me. When he's off, he's really off.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hunk it shows the importance of having Hendo in that side of the field. Offers much more than Keita did
Gomez has definitely regressed over these last few months. When he first played together with Virg 18/19 season they looked unstoppable together.
Injuries haven’t helped but we play such a high line and risky pressing football, that when the opposition beat the press, the defence is left isolated.
Doesn’t help either that it’s been a unique year in football and players are still at different fitness levels, should be ok once the season gets into its groove.
I think a combination of these things has what’s affected Gomez. He’s still quite young remember and defenders don’t peak until later on. Maybe Matip coming back might be the kick up the backside he needs.
You have to give credit to Leeds how they tactically outplayed us in some areas. They played through our press in the first half as Philips had a sea of space to pick a pass.
They put 3 players on the side of Trent.
We should have dropped a bit back and hit them on the on the break as they are vulnerable on the counter.

“a bit David Luiz”
You mean winning league titles in three different countries, the Champions League and being in the PFA team of the year?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No means he runs past the action then puts himself in no mans land, bit like son v Luiz against Chelsea for Gomez’s defending of Leeds first goal

A bit of a stupid and reductive, and lazy analysis, when I can find multiple clips of multiple defenders caught in no mans land, but very few playing 120 minutes of a CL final with an injury vs Bayern Munich and scoring a crucial penalty in a shootout.

Personally I would drop Gomez for the game against Chelsea and play Matip. Defensively we've been out of sorts for a while. Gomez has fantastic recovery speed, which suits the high line, but Matip has proven that he can step up and an be relied upon. Henderson on the right side of midfield really helps Trent and the balance of the team. By his own high standards TAA was poor today, but as has been said was given the assistance he needed. His delivery today was awful though which obviously isn't the norm.

Gomez has been poor for a while. Getting caught out positionally far too much. Klopp may need to look at fit again Matip to partner VVD.
VVD doesn't escape criticism either. That's twice in recent times hes been done by being too casual which have lead to goals. Needs to up his game.

It was just shocking all around, you cant play that high of a line and offside trap that disorganised and you can't do it without pressure on the ball upfront press. Leeds very good at long balls inbehind as they have capable passers. But yeah lot of work to do there for Klopp n the coaches.
Gomez TAA n VVD were shockingly poor today defendively and their mf constantly made runs past ours not being tracked so that was hard for our CBs too when they constantly found themselves outnumbered.
It was just all over the place our organisation and so many players were pathetic. VVD TAA Gomez Wijnaldum and Firmino were all extremely careless.
Saying that, to say we had so many players having shockers, we still managed to play some decent stuff, sure they had slightly more possession but as expected as they was always behind. We had 22 shots to 6, 9 corners to 0 etc so it wasnt all bad from us.
Naby played well and again didnt deserve to be hooked, especially when Wijnaldum was doing fack all n ended up missing sitters too. Salah was very lively n busy, Mane had a decent game too.
I wouldn’t lump all the blame on your defenders; your midfield was all over the place today and offered little protection.
With Salah and Mane fit, you’ll always have a chance against any given side on any given day, but I can’t believe the club isn’t investing heavily in your midfield.

Matip has been very very unlucky in that it has been injury that has taken him out the team on the last 2 occasions he was on a run as being a 1st choice. He has not put a foot wrong when he has been called upon. I feel the team are much more solid with him in there. Be interesting to see what klopp does v chelsea where the defence will come under the microscope heavily.
