Auba interview with Ian Wright.

Two great jovial, spirited characters

It's not just Auba's goals that are important in terms of what he brings, it's easy to see why everyone loves our captain.

I may be reading between the lines too much but from what he says about his chats with Arteta maybe there actually is some kind of hope for the direction of the club now. Something seems to have convinced him that we’re going to do the right things to get the club back up to the top level of the game. And that hopefully means investing and backing the manager over the coming years...

Or we just offered him loads of money and put out some nice PR for the fans. Whatever, it’s great that he’s staying.

I wouldn't call that reading between the lines

Maybe I mean actually believing there might be substance behind the PR waffle.

I think he turned down Barca because they are in a bit of a transition and he would not be the main man there anyway - then of course we offered him an ENORMOUS salary and he rates Arteta as a Manager.
He can also have a legacy at Arsenal, no possibility of that at somewhere like Barca - so all in all it makes sense for him.

I meant, I think it's pretty clear to see that we are moving in the right direction and things are changing. Of course, promises have been made in the past that things would get better that didn't materialise but I don't believe you need to read between the lines to realise things are genuinely improving with Arteta running the show.

He's obviously very intelligent and as a player he played under good managers. I'm not going to check but I assume he was playing for a prime Moyes at Everton, then he came to Arsenal and probably had the last few decent years of Wenger before things really started to deteriorate. Then he spent time shadowing and learning from Guardiola as assistant manager.

It's the first time in a long while I've really believed we are genuinely on-the-up again and the club are making better decisions as a whole. Personally, I don't feel like I've had to read through any lines to see that, to me it seems obvious.
