He's massively overrated. Ghosts through too many games for my liking.
I’m not sure what to think on him anymore tbh. When he first came through under Jose I found him overrated. At that time I thought to myself that this guy was probably not going to make it further than Championship/low PL level. I found him very passive and ‘safe’. It did not help we mismanaged him. He made minimal appearances till he went on loan to Palace at, what, age 21-22.
At Palace I changed my opinion on him quite a lot, he proved his talent there. Showed a great agility to beat players and was actually quite effective even as a winger.
Under Sarri as well he certainly was effective too. He improved his goalscoring threat, and continued to build on his ball carrying strength. Even after I rated him more post-Palace loan and Sarri form I never truly bought into him being a key player for a top team. I thought both his niggling injuries and his tendency to dip in and out of matches would prevent that. But still thought at this point this guy can be a great impact sub / rotation starting XI player.
But since Sarri he’s been a bit underwhelming. I do think it’s the injuries and potentially lack of confidence that has impacted him. He no longer even looks like he could be good enough to be a rotation player for us.
Something that seems to have been lost is his ball carrying ability/mobility. And without that there’s not many more talents to his game (in terms of passing/vision/shooting technique).
He is older than you tend to think, turning 25 this season. With so many midfielders in our squad and coming through I think he could be an attractive choice for the club to sell for big £££s tbh.

I see where he could be an asset/a good player in general - but his injuries, combined with his wages, combined with the fact I've only liked what I've seen in one position (LCM in 433) do make him a bit of a passenger to me.
He's one of those players where I know there's every chance I'll be proven wrong, I'm just glad I'm not in Lampard's shoes where he's concerned. I wouldn't know how to extract value from him without compromising others like Mount or Kovacic.
25 this season and still to cement a breakthrough, cut and run next summer i suspect.
I just think it's time we cut him loose and make some money on him. It's a shame as he has at times shown glimpses of top class ability. But I don't think he wants it enough. He wouldn't (and doesn't) give everything on the pitch. He looks lazy and unbothered.

If only he attended too many games in the first place
He was probably our best player in the second half of Sarris's season and I'm not sure we'd have got top four or got to the EL Final without him.
Since then he got that horror injury in Boston and he hasn't had a run in the side since. Can he stay fit over a season ? No idea but this season will tell us a lot and probably determine his Chelsea future.

Yeah this comment struck out as very weird. I doubt he’s had 5 games in a row and I doubt he’s started 20 games for us.
Neville's comments were out of touch and out of line
Never took into account that he's just comeback from one of the most severe injuries. Fail.
Don't think people grasp how debilitating and serious of an injury Achilles is (mentally & physically) to an explosive player (or maybe just ignorant), potentially career-ending injury.
Achilles injury is one of the highest grade injuries and shouldn't be taken lightly.
Overlooking that is nothing short of stupid, hes not the only one (so-called fans slandering him).
Thankfully we've got a level-headed manager that understands it is going to take time and is not expecting miracles displays straight away.
Acceleration should reappear over time.
Journey will not be easy for him.
Going to be tough, should be afforded patience...although his injury record is very concerning (can do without any more setbacks).
O don't doubt his ability but I do worry about his fitness. He reminds me of Jamie Redknapp, a good player but injury prone.
I get why people get frustrated with him but I don't think enough context is put on the fact he must be the most inexperienced, nearly, 25 year old in the PL.
It wasn't his fault that he didn't get regular football until he was nearly 22 and twelve injury ravaged months haven't done him any favours.
I reckon you probably won't see the best of him until he's had 2 or 3 months injury free 1st team football under his belt. Unfortunately at our club he's unlikely to get a run like that!

I really don't know what ability he has...honestly
It's all well and good saying he should be cut some slack because of bad injuries, but he's been injured for what feels like half of his top flight career so far.
Yes, he deserves sympathy and it's not easy to recover from such setbacks. But the point is there's a chance he's not good enough to play for Chelsea as a result of those setbacks. They may have done permanent damage ala Essien.
At some point you need to accept the harsh reality of the situation. If he can't be trusted to stay fit for a prolonged period of time and reach the levels we thought he was going to reach, then he should probably be sold next summer.

We all find it tragic and disappointing that a player with so much promise has made so little progress. Imagine how gutted he must feel with the way his career has gone.
Gotta feel for him.
Here's hoping the man gets a break this season... probably his last chance, as the consensus here predicts.
Sounds like at least Frank has faith in him!

Good to hear from the manager!
Probably not. If he continues to bring him on while he underperforms then it will hurt us eventually. Not to mention other players who deserve to play ahead of him based on performance.
