Good point re the league cup wins. The oddness of our results in this comp characterised by our losses against Luton in the 88 Final, i was there unfortunately, when at 2-1 up with a few mins left we get a pen, miss it and then Luton grab 2 late goals to win it. Also the Wenger Birmingham loss and the calamitous Koscielny mix up.
Often get to the Final but rarely win it. Very strange
Side note, all Arsenal COVID tests came back negative so any worries following the West Ham news has been put to bed.

Right back Nigel Winterburn
The Birmingham defeat was the biggest sham of the Wenger years. A massive chance to end the drought, and not only the last minute fack-up but we were completely shiiiite from the start. Really started to believe we would go a long, long time without winning another trophy - then when we went 2 down to Hull in the FA Cup final

Aww Hull i totally lost me chit when at 2 nil down Gibbs, i think, cleared one off the line. Once Cazorla scored that wonderful free kick it seemed inevitable that we'd win eventually though. 4 FACs in 6 years is incredible when we've been so mediocre.
Spurs don't have what the other big clubs have which is a propensity to pick up trophies regardless of form.

The was the Eduardo break game wasn't it? I can't remember but was the Gallas meltdown in the same game or one a few days later. Tbf the two incidents could be different seasons knowing my memory.
Pepe should start, I think he may be one of those players who needs to play constantly as long as he's fit. Takes a number of games to find form then needs constant starts to keep it. Interrupt the starts and the number of games to top form resets or top form gets broken. Aside from him I'm more concerned with not crocking a 1st teamer in this game. Wouldn't mind if we sent the reserves out for it. Got enough games crammed in without this stupid tournament.
We may need to rename our LB/LWB Kieran "Van" Tierney at this rate. I like the kid but boy is he accident prone
I would be stunned to see Leno play tonight. Not even sure we'll see him for the weekend game. That boy's neck is at least, still real stiff and hurting like a biyatch for SURE!

The Eduardo break game was in the 2007-08 season when we were clear at the top of the premier league with a young and very talented side (Adebayor was smashing them in, RVP and Eduardo were emerging, Fabregas, Hleb and Flamini were passing our opponents off the park). Even after that we went 2-1 up through Walcott, only for a dodgy penalty decision against Clichy to cost us the win.
Following that game and the Gallas meltdown we failed to win a series of games and our title challenge crumbled...critics of Wenger forget that we really should have won the season that year, and if it wasn't for that horrific injury we probably would have. His youth project would have succeeded. We ended up finishing third, 4 points off the title. I always think the fact we failed to win that particular game cost us - our players responded to the horrible injury by doing enough to win the game, only for a rash last-minute penalty to throw it away.
Hate the league cup tbh, should be scrapped. Put the reserves/kids out and take it seriously if you reach the semi final.
May as well make this the match thread. Will update the article when the team comes in.

Reiss Nelson is in the team tonight.
Hector Bellerin and Bukayo Saka also with the squad tonight.
Mesut Özil not involves today #afc
Charles Watts
@charles_watts
David Luiz is captain tonight.
Quite crap it’s not televised. Not sure I can be bothered searching for streams, haven’t had to do that for ages! See how I feel nearer time
Leno keeps, Saliba not in and Holding is. Other than that, the team in the OP.
Runar, Bellerin, Saliba, Ceba, Xhaka, Willian and Laca all on the bench.
So that means Özil and Gwendo wont play anymore for Arsenal.
Midfield of Willock and Elneny. Not looking forward to that.

Probably not. Won’t see them until transfer window ends for sure. If no interest in either you could imagine at least 1 of the 2 might start to be involved in some way
