Keane, Terry and Adams who are the top three all had flaws to their character.

It shows how good at leading their teams they really were.

Captained a team to 2 record league points totals winning one and made 2 CL finals winning one

What records exactly? The record for NOT winning the title may be one of them.

He's a fvcking great captain.

Maybe. if like Kompany he's successful for several seasons then he might be considered.

My top three also. Keane was a nut case but it meant nobody slacked on the pitch or they were first getting the death stare and then an ear bashing. I'd have loved to have seen Keane in the United team with Pogba strolling around.

You don't have to win a load of trophies to be a great captain. You have to be a great captain to be a great captain. You have to be a great team to win a load of trophies.

Shearer didn't win a lot. Was he a poor captain or even a poor striker?

Simplistic way at looking at things which is not surprising from a simpleton.

I think it is highly debatable that Shearer was a good captain.

Shearer wasn't a great captain, don't even know why he's on the list.

Beckham was never a club captain. Captained united a few times but was never officially the captain.

Keane
Terry
Kompany
Vieria
Adams
Vidic
Gerrard

Gets tough after that

Beckham was a great England Captain though.

You know what, I did put him in my top 10, but the more I think about it, you are right. He was a great player and I am probably letting that cloud my judgement. I am thinking back to Dyer making his England debut. He made a great run down the wing and crossed to Shearer for a tap in. Instead of running to Dyer to thank the young lad and give him a confidence boost, he wheeled away with his arm in the air and made it all about him.

From everything I've seen and read over the years I'd have him above Gerrard now I reckon.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But didn’t Gerrard win the CL all by himself?

Not sure Hendo has done that yet

As said I think a lot of people on here don't actually know what a captain does.

Shearer was a figurehead captain who spoke in clichés. The story which I reckon is true about not consoling Beckham after France 98 doesn't look good either.
Great player but not a great leader, imho.
He did though lift Le Tournoi trophy in 1997!!!

Wtf would he console Beckham? The idiot let all his teammates down and caused them a shot at the World Cup.

It was a stupid thing to do but it's Football. In the heat of the moment, common sense sometimes goes out of the window.
Beckham knew he done wrong, but did not deserve the silent treatment.

Somebody argued the case that Jordan Henderson makes a better "captain" than what Gerrard does because of his leadership ability on the pitch whereas Gerrard was more of a central figurehead at the club who players around him looked up to.

Whilst I don't totally agree, I can understand that point of view. Sometimes captains can be based off the biggest player in the squad rather than the best leader. Maybe take Aubameyang at Arsenal for example now for instance?

He deserved to be punished. Bad actions deserve punishment. That was Shearers way as captain to punish him. Keane would have beat the crap out of him.

Give it up TOOR, you haven’t got a clue what you’re on about.

And you would have never made captain. Your teammates fuсk up on purpose and you put an arm around him. Takes a stronger character to be a captain.

Except I’ve been captain for the majority of teams I’ve played for in my life, so as usual you’re wrong.
