What positions Process?

I agree you do but suspect it will be just one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We definitely need another attacker. Even 2 if possible.

Also a left back who is good going forward would be a welcome addition.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think a right winger, left back and centre back are all needed.

But i think you’ll only just get Telles done.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
While I wouldn’t say no to a CB it would be 3rd on my list. We’ve been poor there the opening 2 games but we were good defensively last season especially in the 2nd half of the season. I’m hopeful Bailly and Tuanzebe can stay fit or if no one buys Smalling he can come in and be useful.

The problem is there is 7 or 8 players at the club who are either not in the managers plans whatsoever or who would be let go for any kind of offer.

We may need to shift a few of these before buying.

I thought Shaw had a decent game.
AWB didn't.

Shaw is a good player but we lack balance massively when he’s not available. Also would prefer a left back with a better final ball to play against the lesser sides.

I like Williams but would prefer to try to convert him to a right back while he’s still young enough.

I think the main issue Williams has is positioning at times. That's something that may improve drastically if he was switched to right back. Alternatively, with more experience he could develop that in his current role anyway

Feck me....this article written on the sample size of three games

Always knew the title talk a few weeks ago was ridiculous because they haven’t strengthened the areas they really need to.

When you spend that kind of money you can have no excuses though. We will see whether Chilwell and this Mendy bloke make a difference but I’m not convinced.

That said I still think they will make top four. United, Spurs look to have enough issues of their own. Everton won’t keep it up.

Though Lampard showed exactly how naive he is today. Last week we set up far too defensively against Liverpool, today he squeezed every attacking player he could into the system. We need balance and we need to play our players in their positions.

Not sure why Williams’ positioning would improve if he shifted to RB, when he’s played at LB for years.

Yes and I said before they had played that the defensive signings are not the answer.

Stop trying to convince yourself that you’ll make top four this season
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don’t see why we can’t especially if we add this week. Easily been the 3rd best side in the league in 2020
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Easily? You were scraping for 4th all season and scraped 3rd on the last match day. Lost your first match of the new season and today was again VAR and a peno, after final whistle (!), to scrape a win against Brighton. Who had 5 shots on the posts as well.

there is a reason he said 2020, and not last season.

Silva's first game, Chilwell not played yet, Azpi can come in and new keeper not played yet. Sample size is 3 games.

But he’s saying he didn’t think the defensive signings were the answer before the games were played. That’s a prediction, and not the most outlandish, not a judgement based on three games.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. Don’t know what the confusion is. It’s not outlandish to suggest a 36 year old CB and a GK the majority have never heard of will fix a defence that has conceded 60, yes 60 league goals since the start of last season.

posted on 26/9/20

I can’t comment on the keeper, but it’d be a surprise if he’s as bad as Kepa. But Silva and Chilwell aren’t signings that will fix their defensive issues, in my opinion. Plus their defensive issues are more than just the quality of the back five. Much of that is on how Lampard sets up the team.

Had a look at the keepers history. He moved to Rennes from a club called Reims for 4 mill last summer. Either he’s a late bloomer or he’s just not very good.

Hard to tell with keepers. Keylor Navas was a bit of a late bloomer. We signed Schmeichel when he was 27.

Fair point.

Does seem like a bit of a panic buy though.

posted on 26/9/20

Cech says good for him so coming from previously the best keeper in the world ill take what he says over your opinion.
Schmeichel was unheard of before he came to utd.

Better to panic buy than have Kepa panic between the sticks.

Chilwell is an improvement on what we have at LB.

Silva was brought in for his experience and leadership as we have a pretty young group. He's obviously not the long term answer but hopefully he can help the younger guys.

And just because you've never heard of the keeper doesn't mean he's no good. I'm sure Cech and co have done their research. I doubt he'll be worse than our current two jokers in net.

We'll probably bring in Rice as a DM which should help the balance of the side as currently it's top heavy.

West Ham surely won’t sell Rice. Not unless it’s a crazy price anyway.
