You'd think so but no. I'm talking about the workload aspect - the speed of thought, dealing with pressure, etc... not the quality of chef/cook.
I've seen many far better chefs than me absolutely suck at my job down the years, the common denominator is always the same. Alonso's used to doing one job very well knowing he's supported by others doing donkey work behind him, ask him to multitask (defend, mark, track back, etc...) he crumbles.

I agree the notion that he’s a million times better as a wingback I don’t subscribe to. How can it even work that he is terrible as a LB but he moves his average position 10-15 yards up the pitch and he’s suddenly amazing.
Alonso being slow, unable to dribble, cross, or defend doesn’t magically change as a wingback. It does allow him to get into the occasional scoring position more, it allows a LCB to cover for his defensive deficiencies and that’s about it. Aka what happens with most full-backs if you move them to wingback.
but he moves his average position 10-15 yards up the pitch and he’s suddenly amazing.

Yep. He's a hotel chef playing the role of an assembly line cook,

Shouldn't that be the other way round Devil

Yeah I thought that
Anyway Brum... you've still to tell me what he's good at

As tongue in cheek as it may have been, the analogy DDA posted, as one of many examples: ‘As a LB he's Clark Kent, as a WB he's Superman.’
More like as a LB he’s Clark Kent, as a WB he’s ..still Clark Kent
Personally I've always maintain he be best as an emergency striker but then it would have to be a 1 dire emergency

I've heard people calling him a Kent before...
I think
I didn't actually say he was 'good' at anything Sheriff
I just pointed out it was a bit unfair judging him as an orthodox full back, when he isn't one!

Well ok but my point is he shouldn't be playing at all... In any position
He's a decent (not brilliant) player but he's not being used in a position that (a) he's used to or (b) he's any good at.
This last bit here Brum...

Thats his job now though isnt it? If he isnt any good at it he shouldnt be playing. Not exactly completely his fault, definitely Lampards. Plain to see Azpi is a better option. Emerson as well even if it is only slightly.

At least Emerson has got some speed about him
Anyone yesterday notice that bit where the West Brom player gave him about a 5 yard start, had time to run around him and then strip him easily for pace, so Alonso does the only thing he knows and grabs hold of him.
I pisssed myself laughing at that point and when he put the classic Tony Adams lazy arm up for offside after the bloke he should have been marking was left alone to score.
For me he is a lazy Footballer. He does have some ability, but ability without application is useless.
He can head the ball well & has a great shot on him...both if given time
That's it
Oh tell me this is for real....
