We still can't sell our players for love nor money. It's just postponing the problem for a year

so that's chong, gomes, garner, pereira, sanchez, and now apparently dalot out this summer, and overall we've lost money on them (!)

While I agree generally there is not much to lose here.
Either he has a good season and is ready to come back in or at least get a decent price or he has a poor one and he’s in the same place as this summer.

In this instance it might work out for us. He needs some game time. Maybe in a year he will have kicked on?
the good thing here is that his contract runs until 2023, so even next summer he still has 2 years left on it.
but from what i can read ole wanted him sold permanently, then there was talk of a loan with buy option for milan, now we're down to straight loan, no option/obligation to buy.
it does free up a squad place, and hopefully/presumably they will pay 100% of his wages, but hard to get too enthusiastic when a £20m signing heads off on loan after 2 years.
have we forgotten how to sell players for a fee?

Not really if they do well and their loan club agrees to a permanent transfer. It might be the only way out of this mess we're in. They need to play to show clubs they might be worth buying. It worked with Sanchez. We had to pay him off but at least we got him off the wage bill.

Hopefully so. I think he could yet be a decent player for us. He didn't look sharp the other night. But then, he hadn't played in what, 7 or 8 months? Maybe regular football could benefit him.

That's more what I was getting at. Not specifically Dalot but just a general incapacity to sell players whom the manager doesn't want
Is there any other club that not only struggles to buy players (without paying ridiculous fees and wages) but also sell its unwanted players. Club really is run by buffoons.
Looks like the Telles deal is gonna fall through too unless we agree a fee by tomorrow. Honestly, Ed's neck needs wringing so bad.

The two are directly linked.
We overpay on transfers (cause we’re united and we get milked), and then we hold out for comparable fees when selling when it’s kind of unrealistic for other clubs.
It’s the same situation for the wages we pay too. Overpriced, and buying clubs can’t / won’t match them.
It’s definitely a factor in us being so crap at moving players on.

I actually think he's playing this one well, for once. We can get him on a pre-contract agreement in 3 months. Porto would be wise to take even a 12 million fee and I'd be surprised if they didn't cave by Monday evening. But that's a specific set of circumstances, not something that should be applied to all negotiations - something that appears lost on the negotiators of transfers
If he does well on loan Milan might take him on loan with an obligation to buy next season.

I'd suggest that it's comfortably the biggest factor. Well, the combination of the exorbitant wages and unrealistic price tags
The deal has to be done by tomorrow Merry because he's flying off to Brazil on Sunday for international duty.

Ah right. Yeah, that is an issue. Maybe we'll see it done tomorrow then. Porto hanging on to an unhappy player for a year doesn't seem smart business
Pointless move. They won't want to buy.

seeing what is happening with smalling after an amazing year at roma, we need to stop loaning players "we want to get rid of" to clubs that have no intention of paying what we want
14 million for smalling while liverpool selling brewsterfor 25 mil
We have literally been demanding that we sell Dalot outright, then it turned into a loan with buy option then it turned into a loan only. We are so bad in the market its embarrassing.

It’s been a common theme the past 7 years. Any other business that fails this bad would restructure its senior management for wasting so much money, but there doesn’t seem to be any changes at Utd, unless they’re making changes behind the scenes which we don’t know about and even then it’s still a failure.
Every season we take one step forward and then two steps back. Let’s face it, we’re not finishing 3rd or above this season without any further investment.

He appears to prefer TFM. If we get Telles in too then that leaves 2 options at LB and RB plus Williams as a 3rd option to both sides. Not going to be much opportunity for him to play.
anyone remember those warm and optimistic days of early summer?
"we'll sell lingard, rojo, smalling, pereira, and dalot...maybe £50m the lot...sancho for £100m, grealish for £50-60m...if we manage that, we can then sell james, so maybe a total net spend of c. £90m, easily doable"
3 months later we haven't managed to get rid of lingard or rojo, romero's being paid £50k a week to "spend more time with his family", we've made our reserve GK the 3rd highest paid in the PL, can't even agree a deal with roma for smalling, our total income from all sales this summer is negative, and sancho is nowhere to be seen. and it's p!ssing it down too.
