Personally I don't care if a player is signed in the first week of the window or the last.

Though a deadline day deal is always fun (Martial anyone?)

Not all players needs months to adjust. Bruno came in and hit the ground running. Same with VDB.

The problem with it is if you don't get the player you want, you've got no time to do a deal for another player. Whether you care or not, it's just not a prudent or sensible way to do business

The problem we have is we need specific players and the backups are just not there.

There's no Sancho alternative, or any decent CBs on the market.

Then there are the younger/left field options.

Plenty of decent players about.

I think we could still get him next year. But we’ll need to get CL football, and I’m not convinced we’ll do that given how we’ve prepared for this season.

Why go get him next year though? That doesn’t make any sense at all.

He won’t cost any less and his wage demands won’t be any lower (not least because he’ll sign another new contract this season) unless he has a stinker of a campaign, and then questions will (and should) be asked about whether he’s the right player.

Plus, given that we’ve done close to fack all else this summer business-wise, we’ll likely have more areas to address next summer than we’ve had this.
